Murrabit marks first victory of season

MURRABIT marked its first win of the Radio 3SH Central Murray FNL senior footy season in Saturday’s sixth round.

The Blues made a great start on Wandella’s ground to lead 30-9 at quarter-time.

Term two went Murrabit’s way, 28-19.

The Justin Robinson-coached Wandella fought back to score four straight goals in the third as the Blues were held to a tally of 1.5.

A closely-fought last quarter was won by Murrabit, 14-13, on its way to an 83-65 victory.

The Blues’ attack was led by Nathan Buzza, Ben Derbas, Leo Ellison and Adam Thomson with two.

Wandella’s leading goalkicker was Jaspa Chamberlain on five as Sam Taylor slotted two.

Ben Derbas, Bailey Pengelly, Wade Minter, Ryan Harvey, Leo Ellison and Riley Carse were best for the Rick Ladson and Jack Shannahan-coached Murrabit.

Best for Wandella were Sam Taylor, Nathan Boysen, Jaspa Chamberlain, Tynan Dove, Tim Robinson and Adam Ward.

Tooleybuc Manangatang fought for a 102-97 win against Koondrook Barham at Tooleybuc.

The Saints led 34-21 at quarter-time and 52-27 by the long break.

A Koondrook Barham team coached by Marcus Demaria fought back to score six goals in the third quarter and closed within 13 points by the last change.

The River Raiders outscored the Saints in the final term, 32-24, but it was the Saints which held a five-point buffer at the final siren.

Cohen Frith kicked four goals for Tooleybuc Manangatang as Ben Arentz, Josh Chatfield, Luke and Robbie McComb kicked two each.

Koondrook Barham’s leading goalkicker was Patrick Goble on two.

Best for the Saints were co-coach Robbie McComb, Jack Mazzarella, Nick Ryan, Cohen Frith, co-coach Nayef Hamad and John Wardle.

Best for the River Raiders were Cameron Arnold, Jack Poulton, Patrick Goble, Jacob Barrington, Martin Kelly and Jack Shannon.

Cohuna Kangas scored a 37-point win at home against Ultima.

The Jack Geary-coached Kangas skipped to a 25-6 lead by quarter-time and then scored 3.5 in the second as Ultima was held to a tally of four behinds.

Cohuna won the third, 25-18.

The Eagles from Ultima won the last term, 11-3, but it was Cohuna which led 76-39 at the siren.

Cohuna’s attack was led by Corbin Anderson and Lachlan English with three each.

Dustin Burns led Ultima’s attack on two.

Best for Cohuna were Sam McGlone, Tom Toma, Daniel Coates, Ricky Monti, Jack Geary and Chris Anderson.

Lucas Caccaviello, Zac Cattlin, Dustin Burns, Sol Kelly, Matt Taverna and Angus Hinton were best for the Joel Donnan-coached Ultima.

Mallee Eagles soared to a 29-point win against Lake Boga at Lalbert.

The Harry Allen-coached Eagles led 24-14 at quarter-time and then won a closely-fought second term, 28-20.

Lake Boga’s play and pressure lifted dramatically in the third quarter.

As the Dean Helmers-coached Magpies scored 3.4 they kept the Eagles to a tally of 1.1.

Mallee responded to the challenge by adding four goals in the last to complete an 85-56 victory.

Gun forward Darcy Hourigan kicked a match-high six goals for Mallee as Marcus Wattie kicked two.

The Magpies’ leading goalkicker was Darcy Butler on three as Nathaniel Holmes-Brown slotted two.

Best for Mallee Eagles were Marcus Wattie, Zac O’Meara, Hamish Hosking, Darcy Hourigan, Billy O’Meara and Max Parsons.

Lake Boga’s best were Braden Padmore, Rex Hickman, Bryce Anderson, Xavier Sherlock, Nathaniel Holmes-Brown and Codie Anderson.

The Swan Hill line-up scored a 46-point win on Balranald’s turf at Greenham Park.

Despite its inaccuracy, 20 behinds, Swan Hill won 74-28 against the Kangaroos.

The Swans’ attack was led by Noah Pearson, Harry Scott and Will Simpson with two goals each.

Tom Salau slotted two goals for the Brent Macleod-coached Kangaroos.

Best for the Jason Murphy-coached Swans were Will Simpson, Connor Dooley, Xavier Moloney, Flynn and Noah Angus, and Kaylem Hartley.

Balranald’s best were Archie Alderuccio, Jack Salau, Kane Agius, Ian Fuller and Tom Salau.

Nyah Nyah West United beat Kerang by 87 points in the Demons’ den at Nyah Recreation Reserve.

The Corey Daniels-coached NNWU raced to a 37-8 lead by quarter-time and was up 53-10 at the long break.

Quarter three went the Demons’ way, 28-15.

Six goals in the last by the red and blue capped a 120-33 victory against the Blues.

The Demons’ attack was led by Jonathon Ross with seven goals as Alex Erlandson, Ethan Saville and Beau Schwarze slotted two each.

Best for Nyah Nyah West United were Jonathon Ross, Jaydyn Stirling, Jack Palmer, Nash Richman, Scott Carlin and Brayden Bigham.

Kerang’s best were Flynn McKnight, coach Brad Pay, Josh Hunter, Damian Byrne, Tyson Clingan and Jack Sullivan.

The Woorinen Tigers dominated their home game against Moulamein.

A closely-fought first quarter went Woorinen’s way, 34-26.

The Tim Free-coached Tigers scored 3.3 in the second as Moulamein added 1.2.

Woorinen dominated the second half.

The yellow and black scored four goals in the third and then slammed on nine majors in the last to complete a 143-50 victory.

Will Collicoat kicked five goals for the Tigers as Doug Beames added four.

Other multiple goalkickers for Woorinen were Jason Iannucci, Xavier Johnson and Lachlan Warburton with two.

Moulamein’s attack was led by Adam Curry on four.

Woorinen’s best were Henry Thompson, Rhys Cason, Doug Beames, Lachlan Warburton, Taylor Cameron and Will Collicoat.

Best for Moulamein were Will Gibson, Jack Jones, Charlie Bowes, Morgan Turvey, Heath Moloney and Adam Curry.

The Swans are coached by Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz.

Tyntynder and Hay had a rest as they played in Round Zero on March 28 at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.

The Lions from Hay marked an 82-30 victory.

Hay faces Wandella in the Lions’ den at Hay Recreation Reserve.

Murrabit hosts the in-form Cohuna Kangas.

Kerang and Mallee Eagles clash on the Blues’ turf at Kerang’s Riverside Park.
