WEDDERBURN is the only unbeaten team in Goldacres North Central FNL senior footy following Saturday’s round six win against Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers.
The Tom Metherell-coached Redbacks overcame a 13-point deficit at quarter-time to win the clash in their web at Donaldson Park by 40 points.
It was an outstanding performance by Wedderburn which won the second quarter, 29-2, and then outscored SNL by 13 points in the third and 13 in the last.
Matt Perri led the attack on three goals in an 84-44 victory as Noah Furlong, Oscar Holt and Hamish Lockhart kicked two goals each.
It’s been a long time since Sea Lake Nandaly did not have a player mark multiple goals in a match and was held to a tally of six goals.
Best for Wedderburn were Jye Mortlock, Zach Pallpratt, Jayden Jones, Noah Furlong, Corey Lowry and Hamish Lockhart.
Trent Donnan, Adam Pattison, Charlie Cox, Billy Poulton, Robin Nahas and co-coach Wade Donnan were the Tigers’ best.
SLN also has Boyd Bailey as co-coach.
Boort celebrated its first win of the season as the Magpies swooped for a six-goal victory against St Arnaud at Boort Park.
The Andrew Rutley-coached Boort raced to a 24-6 lead by quarter-time.
St Arnaud struck back to win the second, 16-8, as Boort held a 10-point buffer at the long break.
Quarter three went the way of the Magpies, 26-9.
It was closely-fought final term in which Boort scored 3.3 and the Saints added 1.6.
Boort led 79-43 at the siren.
The Magpies’ attack was led by Danko Bzenic on three goals as Jackson Daley and Tyson Rutley added two each.
A list of St Arnaud’s goalkickers was not supplied.
Boort’s best were Jonathan Lanyon, Liam Bianco, Lachlan Hall, James Byrne, Jack Smith and Harry Weaver.
Best for St Arnaud were Jay Kirwood, Sean Holroyd, Harrison Saunders, Lachlan O’Connell, Harley Durward and Matt Goode.
The Saints are jointly coached by Harley Durward and Darby Schilder.
At Wycheproof it was Calder United which scored a 19-point victory against Donald.
The Lions led 38-12 at quarter-time and 65-21 by the long break.
In the second half it was Donald which controlled a lot of the play.
The Royals won the third quarter, 27-16, and then added 3.3 in the last as Calder United was held to a score of 1.1.
By the final siren the Lions led 88-69.
Dale Pearce and Steven Stroobants led Calder United’s attack on six and five goals.
Blake Grant and Cooper MacKenzie-George kicked two goals each for Donald.
Best for the Lions were Justin Laird, Oscar Madden, Boe Bish, Jordan Hughes, Billy Forrester and George Turner.
Donald’s best were Charlie Campbell, Bill Sam, Pala Kuma, Cooper MacKenzie-George, Blake Grant and Daniel Pearce.
The Jordan Humphreys and Tom Bickley-coached Lions are third on a five-one record as they chase back-to-back premierships.
A Donald team coached by Daniel Pearce and Matt Walder is fifth on a two-four record.
Birchip-Watchem moved into the four after a 111-point win against Charlton at Birchip’s George Cartwright Oval.
The Bulls charged to a 35-1 lead by quarter-time and then scored six goals in the second as Charlton slotted its first major.
By half-time the Ash Connick-coached Bulls were up 75-7.
Led by the play of Sam Simmons, Zane Connick and Dale Hinkley the Bulls kicked on for a 138-27 result.
Ricardo Liparota and Joseph Reid capped a great match with six goals each as Mac Lewis slotted three.
There was no multiple goalkicker for Chalrton.
Best for Birchip-Watchem included Joseph Reid, Mac Lewis and Heath Smith.
Jaydon Stiles, Jake Lawry, Ben Lanyon, Elliott Fitzpatrick, Bailey Hooper-Dixon and Zac Wescott were best for the Carl Thiesz-coached Navies.
