Scores in Mount Pleasant’s clash with Heathcote all tied up

SCORES were locked on 98-all when the final siren sounded in Mount Pleasant’s senior footy clash with Heathcote in Saturday’s ninth round in the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL season.

The Blues and Saints also played for the Cliff and Peter White Memorial Shield on Mount Pleasant’s ground in Toolleen.

Mount Pleasant holds the shield which was first played for in 1997 in honour of two great clubmen who drowned off the south coast of Victoria, along with Mark Bell.

A high-scoring opening quarter was won by Mount Pleasant, 38-25.

Both teams added 3.3 in the second term.

Quarter three went Heathcote’s way, 32-25, to be within a goal of the reigning premier going into the final term.

As the Saints added 3.2 in the last they kept the Blues to a tally of 2.2.

Both teams achieved identical scoring shots of 23 and scores of 15.8 (98).

It was Mount Pleasant’s second draw of the season after a 90-all result against North Bendigo in the round six match at Toolleen.

The Blues’ attack against the Saints was led by the brilliant Ben Weightman on seven goals as Xavier Carter added two.

Leading goalkicker for Heathcote was Stefan Rasinac on four as Rhys Bolton, Dylan Johnstone and Sean Williams kicked two each.

Best for Mount Pleasant were key defender William Wallace, Ben Weightman, rover Jack Hickman, Xavier Carter, co-coach Josh Hann and Alex Wharton.

The Blues have Cam Carter as non-playing co-coach.

Heathcote’s best were Stefan Rasinac, the hard-running Rhys Bolton, Codie Price, Dillon Williams, Callum Birch and Justin Bateson.

The Saints are coached by Andrew Saladino, non-playing, and Liam Jacques, playing.

North Bendigo bounced back from defeat to score a 58-point win against Harlowe Huntly Hawks at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

The clubs also played for the Golden City Cup as a tribute to the Bulldogs of old and to those who represented Provincial which became Huntly many years later.

It was a crucial match for a North Bendigo team coached by Rob Bennett, non-playing, and Ryan Hartley, playing, to regain its place in the five.

The Bulldogs were also wary of the Hawks who had charged to a 79-point win against Elmore at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve the previous round.

A closely-fought opening quarter was won by North Bendigo, 19-16.

As the Bulldogs added four goals in the second they kept the Hamish Morcom-coached Hawks to a tally of two majors.

North Bendigo won the third, 26-21.

Just as it had done in its previous home game, North Bendigo dominated the final quarter.

The Bulldogs scored seven goals and kept Huntly to a sole goal.

Ryan Hartley and Cody Riddick kicked five goals apiece in a 114-56 victory as Darcy Richards added three.

Huntly’s attack was led by Lachy Wilson with two.

Best for North Bendigo were Ryan Hartley who earnt the Keith Robertson Medal in tribute of a great clubman who later became a club president and then Heathcote DFNL president.

The Bulldogs’ best in their latest victory included the classy Cody Riddick, captain Aaryn Craig, Will Gilmore, Liam Dillon and Bailey Cain.

Huntly’s best was ruckman Nathan Dunstan who earnt the Kevin Price Medal.

Lachy Wilson, Stefan Pye, Jacob Greenwood, Harrison Campbell and Nicholas Roberts also played well for the brown and gold.

Leitchville Gunbower turned a one-goal deficit at half-time into a 13-point victory on the White Hills ground in Scott Street.

Scores were locked on 19-all at quarter-time.

The Demons controlled a lot of play in the second, but would rue its inaccuracy.

As White Hills added 1.6 in the second the LG Bombers scored a goal.

By half-time a Demons’ team coached by Brad McConnell and Lachie Sawyer led 50-44.

Quarter three was dominated by Leitchville Gunbower as it slammed on seven goals and kept the red and black to a major.

White Hills fought back strongly to win the last, 43-24, but it was the Bombers who were up 114-101 at the final siren.

Ryan Allan kicked five goals in a best afield performance for Leitchville Gunbower as Billy Hawken also booted five and Blake Dye slotted three.

The Demons’ attack was led by Patrick Conlan on three as Tom Conlan, Mitch Dole, Lachlan Martin, Doolan Nihill and Strahan Robinson booted two each.

Best for the Joel Donehue-coached Bombers were Ryan Allan, Billy Hawken, James Brereton, Nic Cattapan, Clay McGregor and Jye Keath.

Doolan Nihill, Josh Harris, Tom Conlan, Patrick Crawford, Charlie Mortimer and Jack Lawton were best for White Hills.

At Elmore it was Lockington Bamawm United which marked its trek to Bloods’ territory by scoring a 46-point victory.

The Jayden Howe-coached LBU led 33-20 at quarter-time.

A high-scoring second term went the way of the Cats, 39-33.

In the third the LBU team charged clear as it scored 5.5 and kept the Bloods to a goal.

The Luke Freeman-coached Elmore fought on to win the last, 21-19, but it was LBU which took the premiership points in a 126-80 result.

Brayden Hull led LBU’s attack on five goals as Jesse Collins kicked four and Thomas Leech added three.

Elmore’s leading goalkicker was Lachie Gawel on five as James Harney slotted four.

Best for Lockington Bamawm United were Patrick Keele, Nick Smart, Bowden Stone, Jesse Collins, Brayden Hull and Marcus Angove.

Peter Rothacker, Ashton Sinn, Lachie Gawel, Darcy Irwin, James Harney and Ethan Sinn were best for the Bloods.

Colbinabbin had the bye.

In the netball action………LOCKINGTON Bamawm United scored a stunning victory against Elmore in Saturday’s ninth round of A-grade netball in the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL season.

The LBU Cats marked their trek across to Elmore with a 57-51 victory.

A LBU team coached by Stacy Bacon went in as underdogs as Elmore had won two of its three previous matches.

The Adam Boldiston-coached Bloods were also fired up after a one-goal loss at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve in round eight.

On Saturday it was the Cats who held sway in a six-goal victory as they jumped to the sixth rung on the ladder.

In what may be a prelude to an elimination final it was North Bendigo which won a thriller at home against the Harlowe Huntly Hawks.

The Kiralee Kinder-coached North Bendigo won a top match, 44-42 at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street.

The Bulldogs moved to the fourth rung and are two points clear of the fifth-placed Huntly which is jointly coached by Kym Bell and Ash Sherlock.

Mount Pleasant was too strong for Heathcote in Toolleen.

The Anthea McCleary-coached Blues dominated a lot of the play on their way to a 68-32 victory against the Saints.

Playing at Mounts completed a tough run for the Brooke Price-coached Heathcote which played at White Hills the previous round.

The White Hills Demons attack was in hot form against Leitchville Gunbower in the Scott Street den in White Hills.

The Elley Lawton-coached White Hills netted a 69-32 victory against the Bombers.

Was a tough hit-out for the Katie Pollock-coached Leitchville Gunbower line-up which plays on Mount Pleasant’s court next round.

Unbeaten reigning premier Colbinabbin had the bye.
