Hay takes points on Kangas’ ground in Cohuna

THE Hay Lions fought on to claim a four-point victory on the Cohuna Kangas’ ground in Saturday’s eighth round in Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray senior footy.

Cohuna kicked away to lead 14-8 at quarter-time and 21-15 by the long break.

In the third the Lions clawed their way to be within a point as they scored 2.1 and Cohuna added 1.2.

The Kangas were up 29-28 going into the final term.

A goal by Hay and strong defence to limit Cohuna to a tally of two behinds meant the Lions led 35-31 at the final siren.

Goalkickers for Hay were Tom Baneulos, two; Jack Cattanach, James Lugsdin and Declan Watson.

Corbin Anderson, Tyson Farrant, Charlie Ford and Kyle Monaghan were on target for Cohuna.

Best for the Lions were Ned Reinhard, Tom Banuelos, Dylan Collis, Tom Sheldrick, Daniel Stewart and Fergus Cattanach.

Cohuna coach Jack Geary was best along with Brady Hore, Corbin Anderson, Ricky Monti, Kyle Monaghan and Tom Toma.

A Hay line-up coached by Mick Cattanach and James Moran is fourth in the premiership race on a six-two record.

Balranald celebrated its first victory of the season as the Kangaroos skipped to a 93-63 victory on their Greenham Park turf against Murrabit.

The Brent Macleod-coached Balranald led 28-13 at quarter-time as both teams scored 4.1 in the second.

Balranald’s workrate and conversion of chances was excellent.

As the Roos scored 4.1 in the third the Blues added 2.4.

The Kangaroos then won the last, 15-9, on the way to a long-awaited victory.

Ben Fuller capped a great match with six goals as Seb Papa kicked two for Balranald.

Murrabit’s attack was led by Adam Thomson with three goals as Ben Derbas slotted two.

Best for Balraland were Liam Farnsworth, Kane Agius, Jack Salau, Brandon Gardiner, Tom Salau and Ben Fuller.

Murrabit’s best were Sam Copland, Bryden Morison, Ben Gillingham, Adam Thomson, James Russo and Leo Ellison.

The Blues are coached by Rick Ladson and Jack Shannahan.

Kerang fought for an eight-point win on Lake Boga’s ground at Lake Boga Sports Club.

The hosts were up 21-7 at quarter-time and 34-19 by half-time.

Quarter three was dominated by the Brad Pay-coached Kerang.

The Blues scored 4.3 and kept the Magpies to a tally of 1.2.

Kerang led 46-42 going into the final term.

Despite an inaccurate 1.5 in the last, Kerang led 57-49 at the siren against the Dean Helmers-coached Magpies.

Pay capped a superb match with four goals.

Lake Boga’s attack was led by Nathaniel Holmes-Brown and Braden Padmore on two each.

Best for Kerang were Ian Fisher, Martin Kelly, Rylee Gitsham, Brad Pay, Liam Jardine and Jack Sullivan.

Lake Boga’s best were Braden Padmore, Marty Parsons, Codie Anderson, Nathaniel Holmes-Brown, Reef Mulligan and Patrick Bryan.

Tyntynder scored a 22-point win against Wandella at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.

Scores were locked on at 15-all at quarter-time before Tyntynder added 2.4 and kept the Justin Robinson-coached Wandella scoreless in the second.

Term three went the way of the Bulldogs, 13-8.

Defences were on top in the last term as Tyntynder scored three behinds and the Bombers racked up two.

At the final siren the Darcy Bibby-coached Tyntynder led 47-25.

Bulldogs’ captain Elliot Broad booted three goals.

Best for Tyntynder were Patrick Crowe, Josh Potter, Solomon McKay, Jamahl Jenkins-Clive, Elliot Broad and Elia Ware.

Wandella’s best were Kaine O’Connell, Ben McNiece, Sam Taylor, Jack Radcliffe, Laing Waddingham and Harvey Macri.

The Saints from Tooleybuc Manangatang won every quarter in an 86-57 victory against Swan Hill in Tooleybuc.

After racing to a 33-18 lead by quarter-time, Tooleybuc Manangatang scored three goals in the second as the Swans added 1.4.

The Saints won the third, 15-14, and then scored three goals in the last as Swan Hill added two majors.

At the final siren Tooleybuc Manangatang was up 86-57.

Josh Chatfield led the Saints’ attack on four goals as Austin Hodge and Robbie McComb kicked two each.

James Horsey kicked three goals for the Swans as Will Simpson slotted two.

Best for Tooleybuc Manangatang were Luke McComb, Austin Hodge, Josh Chatfield, Xavier Brenton-Reed, co-coach Nayef Hamad and Nick Ryan.

Swan Hill’s best were James Horsey, Will Simpson, Lane Cardenas, Anthony Lewin, Tom Holdstock and Sam Brown.

The Saints have Robbie McComb as co-coach.

A Swans’ team coached by Jason Murphy is now sixth on a five-four record.

Reigning premier Woorinen marked an eight-goal win at home against Ultima.

A closely-fought first quarter was won by Ultima, 22-21.

The Tigers fired up to score five goals in the second as Storm added a solitary major.

By half-time Woorinen was up 54-28.

Term three went the way of the Tigers, 25-20.

As Woorinen scored three goals in the last the Storm added a behind.

Sam Hilton-Joyce dominated in the Tigers’ attack to slot six goals as Will Collicoat kicked three and Billy Evers and Daniel Mase added two in a 97-49 victory.

Ultima had seven goalkickers.

Best for Woorinen were Sam Hilton-Joyce, Oscar Lewis, Hugh Thompson, Taylor Cameron, Rhys Cason and Billy Evers.

Ben Kennedy, Jye Purtill, Lucas Caccaviello, coach Joel Donnan, Zac Cattlin and Angus Hinton were Ultima’s best.

Mallee Eagles dominated the clash with Koondrook Barham in Lalbert.

The Harry Allen-coached Eagles soared to a 31-2 lead by quarter-time and then added four goals in the second as Koondrook Barham kicked its sole goal of the opening half.

Term three went Mallee’s way, 28-4.

Inspired by the play of Harry and Tom McGregor, and Toby Sheahan the Eagles kicked on for a 112-25 victory.

The Mallee attack was led by Darcy Hourigan on four goals as Jacob O’Meara and Jayden Post slotted three each, and Jonah Devlin and Marcus Wattie kicked two apiece.

Ryleigh Wilkinson booted two goals for Koondrook Barham.

Best for the Eagles included Marcus Wattie, ruckman Hamish Hosking and Shaun Harrison.

Jacob Barrington, Jack Poulton, Patrick Goble, James Martin, Kye Attwell and Reagan Hamilton were best for the Marcus Demaria-coached River Raiders.

Nyah Nyah West United was too strong for Moulamein at Nyah Recreation Reserve.

The NNWU Demons led 38-5 at quarter-time and then slammed on seven goals as it kept the Swans scoreless in the second.

Moulamein fought back to win the third, 14-nil.

The last went the Demons’ way, 27-8.

Kyle Armstrong, Corey Daniels, Riley Daniels,  John Summerhayes, Joel Walsh and Liam White all kicked two goals in the 109-27 victory.

Goalkickers for the Swans were Charlie Bowes, Tobie Richardson and Morgan Turvey.

Best for the Corey Daniels-coached NNWU Demons were Murndarr McInnes, Liam White, Jaydyn Stirling, Brayden Bigham, Jack Palmer and Dominic Gallo.

Charlie Bowes, Josh Wills, Peter Costanzo, Adam Curry, Morgan Turvey and Heath Moloney were best for Moulamein.

The Swans are coached by Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz.
