THE heat from the Sandhurst Dragons overwhelmed Eaglehawk in Sunday’s play to complete round 11 in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy competition.
The Dragons and Hawks played at Queen Elizabeth Oval in Bendigo.
It was third against fourth leading into the contest.
Sandhurst raced to a 20-nil lead by quarter-time and then won term two, 15-0.
The Hawks goaled through Hannah Kenny in the third, but it was the Dragons who led 55-8 going into the last term.
Intensity at the contest and strong teamwork by Sandhurst did not ease up as it scored another three goals.
When the final siren sounded the Liam Ireland and Andrew Saladino-coached Sandhurst led 76-8.
Leading goalkickers for the Dragons were Grace Campbell on four and Samantha Johnston with three as Isabella Ayre added two.
Best for the maroon and blue were Isabella Ayre, Grace Campbell, Samantha Johnston, Ruby and Lily Campbell, and Lauren Suleiman.
Caitlin Evans, Lucy El Hage, Lexie Moss, Emily Galtieri, coach Molly Metcalf, and Monique Gavriliadis were best for the Hawks.
Stung by defeat the previous round, Castlemaine hit back hard in a 10-goal win against Wedge-Tailed Eagles.
The first meeting between the Magpies and Eagles was at The Railway Hotel Oval in Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve.
After racing to a 26-1 lead by quarter-time, Castlemaine doubled its score in the second as it kept the Eagles scoreless.
Both teams added two behinds in the third term.
The Magpies won the last, 11-1, on the way to a 65-4 victory.
Tiffany Bradley booted four goals for the Magpies as captain Tiahna Cochrane added two.
Best for Castlemaine were Tiahna Cochrane, Alice D’Arcy, Eillish Cumming, Taylah Sartori, Grace Brady and Tiffany Bradley.
Jordan Cochrane is coaching Castlemaine in its pursuit of a fifth consecutive premiership.
Was a tough afternoon for the Phil Hawkes-coached Eagles in which Aisha Mansfield, Ayesha Nicholson, Teagan Ainslie, Skye Sinclair, Maddison Mansfield and Demi Henderson were best.
The ladder-leading Golden Square scored 247 points on Bendigo Thunder’s ground at Weeroona Oval.
A tally of 57 scoring shots was a sign of the Bulldogs’ blitz.
Golden Square led 53-nil at quarter-time and then added 60, 59 and 75 points across the next three quarters.
At the final siren the blue and gold led 247-nil.
Gabby Drage capped a superb match with 11 goals as Ava Barker, Kira Gibbons and Gemma Roberts kicked four each.
Other multiple goalkickers for the Darren Walsh-coached Golden Square were Liz Watkins on three; and Bianca Bourke, Kate Douglass, Dani Jeffery and Lily Mansfield on two each.
Golden Square’s best were Gabby Drage, Taylah Moore, Ava Barker, Kira Gibbons, and co-captains Carly Geary and Liz Watkins.
Best for the Mick McInnes-coached Thunder were Hollie Maher, Archie Mclachlan, Ngaire Harlan, Shasta Martion, Samantha Hunter and Katrina Murphy.
Marong forfeited its match with White Hills which was to have been played at Jackal Oval in Marong’s Malone Park.

Round eight in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls footy competition was played on Sunday.
Closest match of the day was at Marong’s Jackal Oval in Malone Park where White Hills beat the Panthers by a goal.
White Hills led 10-6 at quarter-time and 23-18 going into the final term.
Defences were on top in the last quarter as the Demons were up 24-18 at the siren.
Goalkickers for the Demons were captain Jayda Alford, Maddison Collard and Adele McNaughton.
Marong’s attack was led by captain Tianna Shay on three goals.
Best for White Hills were Matilda Smith, Reagan Finch, Ella Watkins, Matilda Meersbergen and Reagan Wirken.
Emma O’Toole, Phoebe England, Tianna Shay, Taylah Dudderidge, Olive Rogers and Marley Johnson played well for the Panthers.
It was a seven point margin at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye where Storm claimed a 36-29 victory against Kangaroo Flat.
The Kangaroos led 22-16 at half-time and 29-25 going into the final term.
A Storm surge resulted in Strathfieldsaye scoring 1.5 as the Roos did not add to their tally.
At the siren Storm was up 36-29.
Strathfieldsaye’s attack was led by Chella Fitzgerald on two goals as Akiva Morrissey and Isabella Stevens were also on target.
For the Roos it was Matilda Rose who kicked a match-high three goals as Eheh Soe slotted the other.
Best for Storm were Gemma Fox, Jorja Cunningham, Scarlett Ward, Marlie Skinner and Chella Fitzgerald.
Kangaroo Flat’s best were Matilda Rose, Melanie White, Lora Soko, Ava Ahearn, Abigail Sendy and London Benaim.
At Echuca South it was Echuca United which marked a 65-26 victory against Golden Square.
The Eagles soared to a 38-nil lead by half-time.
Echuca United added 2.1 in the third as the Bulldogs scored 1.2.
Golden Square kept working hard and won the last, 18-14, as the Eagles celebrated their second win of the season.

Best for the Eagles were Julia Taranto, Ruby Morgan, Isabella Nathan, Ava Plattfuss, Charlie Martin and Jada Dennis.

The ladder-leading Woorinen Tigers charged to a 78-8 win on Castlemaine’s ground at Camp Reserve.
Woorinen led 35-nil at quarter-time and then added two goals in all of the next three terms.
The Tigers’ attack was led by Stella Bibby and Lana Brooks on three goals each, as Prue O’Sullivan and Carly Shepherd kicked two apiece.
Zoe Brooks was also on target for the yellow and black.
A list of Castlemaine’s best was not supplied.
Best for Woorinen were Mayla Conway, Erin Johnston, Stella Bibby, Lanie Somerville, Sadie Spitty and Jenna Stewart.
Eaglehawk soared to a four-goal win against Sandhurst at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
It was a remarkable second half by the Hawks as it turned a 19-point deficit at half-time into a 24-point victory.
An evenly fought first quarter went Eaglehawk’s way, 18-14.
In the second it was Sandhurst which slammed on five goals and kept the Two Blues to a tally of 1.1.
As the siren sounded for half-time the Dragons led 44-25.
Six goals to Hawks and no score by Sandhurst meant the Borough led 61-44 going into the final term.
Led by the play of Rima Shanley, Tahlia Thorpe and Maggie Pollock, Eaglehawk capped a brilliant second half as it won the last term, seven-nil.
When the final siren sounded Eaglehawk led 68-44.
Zoe Hodgskiss kicked five goals for the Hawks as Ella Jefferis slotted two.
The Dragons’ attack was led by Etta Place on four goals as captain Ellie Bellgenger booted two.
Best for Eaglehawk included Kyah Spiteri, Zoe Hodgskiss and Ella Jefferis.
Sandhurst’s best were Elke Fletcher, Zara Grieve, Milla Dalton, April Wainwright and Etta Place.
