Big scores across Central Murray region

THERE were some high scores achieved Saturday’s play in round nine of the Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray senior footy competition.

Six of the eight winners surpassed the 120-point mark as Cohuna Kangas, 195; Mallee Eagles, 180; and Hay, 171; dominated their matches.

Closest margin of the day was 18 points were Lake Boga beat Koondrook Barham at Barham Recreation Reserve.

Lake Boga led 25-9 at quarter-time, but the Marcus Demaria-coached Koondrook Barham struck back to win the second term, 32-12.

The River Raiders led 61-57 going into the final term, but it was the Lake Boga Magpies who lifted their play to score five goals.

When the siren sounded the Dean Helmers-coached Lake Boga led 88-70.

The Magpies’ attack was led by Rex Hickman on five goals as  Codie Anderson and Nathaniel Holmes-Brown kicked two each.

For the River Raiders it was Cameron Arnold on a match-high five goals as captain Nathan O’Toole kicked two.

Lake Boga’s best were Xavier Sherlock, Lachlan Tarczon, Max O’Reilly, Rory Colville, Reef Mulligan and Rex Hickman.

Best for Koondrook Barham were Jack Poulton, Martin Kelly, Kye Attwell, Ryan Bassett, Harry Bremner and Cameron Arnold.

Ultima fought for a four-goal win at home against Tooleybuc Manangatang.

The Storm led 39-36 at half-time and then seized control as they scored 3.4 in the third quarter as the Saints added 1.5.

The Joel Donnan-coached Ultima slotted four goals in the final term to complete an 85-61 victory.

Leading goalkicker for Storm was Dustin Burns on three as Corey Grey and Thomas Isma kicked two each.

The Saints’ attack was led by Josh Chatfield, three; and Ben Arentz, two.

Best for Ultima were Jack Delmenico, Billy O’Toole, Lucas Caccaviello, Sol Kelly, Jye Purtill and Tiger Vearing.

The Saints’ best were Nick Ryan, Josh Chatfield, co-coach Nayef Hamad, Jesse Gosman, Kallum Hazlett and Austin Hodge.

Tooleybuc Manangatang has Robbie McComb as co-coach.

The ladder-leading Nyah Nyah West United marked an 85-point win against Swan Hill at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve.

A closely-fought opening term went NNWU’s way, 23-14.

The Demons opened up a 28-point margin by half-time and then dominated the final hour.

As the Corey Daniels-coached NNWU scored nine goals in the second half it kept the Swans to a tally of 1.3.

By the final siren the Demons led 120-35.

Beau Schwarze capped a great match with five goals as Jordan Johnston kicked three.

The Swans’ attack was led by Tom Smith on four goals.

The Demons’ best were Jordan Johnston, Joel Walsh, Jaydyn Stirling, Blake Larkings, Ethan Saville and Riley Daniels.

Best for the Jason Murphy-coached Swans were Tom Smith, Xavier Moloney, Connor Dooley, Noah Angus, Tom Holdstock and Sam Scott.

Kerang charged to a 16-goal win against Tyntynder at Kerang’s Riverside Park.

The Brad Pay-coached Blues led 34-9 at quarter-time and 66-15 by the long break.

Kerang slammed on seven goals in the third term and another four in the final term to win 20.15 (135) to 6.3 (39).

An outstanding match for Zak Bozanich was capped with eight goals as Thomas Hetherington and Jack Sullivan slotted three each, and Jonah McKnight added two.

A list of Tyntynder’s goalkickers was not supplied.

Best for the Blues were Rylee Gitsham, Jack Sullivan, Jonah McKnight, Josh Hunter, Hugh Bremner and Liam Jardine.

Tyntynder’s best were Sam Bull, Elia Ware, Patrick Crowe, Wil Hawkins, Michael Zambelli and Jordi Bibby.

The Bulldogs are coached by Darcy Bibby.

Woorinen won at Murrabit by 114 points.

The reigning premiers had plenty of contributors in a score of 23.17 (155).

Best quarter for the Tim Free-coached Tigers was the last in which they slammed on eight goals.

The attack for the yellow and black was led by Tom Langford, six goals; Sam Hilton-Joyce, five; Will Collicoat, three; and Blake Reid, two.

Sam Copland kicked two goals for Murrabit.

Woorinen’s best were Henry Thompson, Tom Langford, Rhys Cason, Josh Stone, Ben Booth and Sam Hilton-Joyce.

Murrabit’s best were co-coach Jack Shannahan, Sam Copland, Wade Minter, Ryan Harvey, Bryden Morison and Matt Moon.

The Blues have Rick Ladson as non-playing co-coach.

Hay scored a 145-point win at home against Balranald.

The Lions charged to a 44-7 lead at quarter-time and did not ease up.

Hay added six goals in the second term, eight in the third, and five in the last.

At the final siren the Lions led the Kangaroos, 171-26.

Eight goals by Declan Watson earnt best-on-ground honours as Jack Headon and Tom Banuelos booted five and four goals for Hay.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Lions were William Collis, three; and Fergus Cattanach and Liam Whitbourne on two.

The Kangaroos’ attack was led by Ben Fuller on three.

Best for Hay were Declan Watson, Joel Crocker, Fergus Cattanach, Daniel Stewart, Jacob Watson and Will Collis.

A list of best for the Brent Macleod-coached Balranald was not supplied.

A Lions’ team coached by Mick Cattanach and James Moran is fourth on a seven-two record.

Mallee Eagles soared to a 166-point victory on Moulamein’s turf.

The Eagles led 40-6 at quarter-time and 85-12 by the long break.

As Mallee added 14 goals in the second half the Swans were held to a tally of two behinds.

Darcy Hourigan kicked 10 goals in 180-14 victory for the Harry Allen-coached Eagles.

Other multiple goalkickers were Jacob O’Meara, four; Shaun Harrison, three; Tom McGregor and Jayden Post, two.

Best for the Eagles were Shaun Harrison, Cody Henness, Darcy Hourigan, Marcus Wattie, Darcy McGregor and Isaiah Bull.

Moulamein’s best were Tobie Richardson, Adam Curry, Will Gibson, Ely Miller, Morgan Turvey and Mark Drotsky.

The Swans are coached by Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz.

Biggest margin of the day was 175 points at Wandella where Cohuna Kangas dominated.

The Jack Geary-coached Cohuna led 34-nil at quarter-time and 80-13 by the long break.

The Kangas kicked 10 goals in the third and another seven in the last.

Jacob Mitchell ended with seven goals in a 195-20 victory.

Other multiple goalkickers for the Kangas were Riley Hird and Tom Toma, four; Ricky Monti, three; and Tyson Farrant and Joel Helman on two.

Cohuna’s best were Chris Anderson, Tom Toma, Charlie Ford, Ricky Monti, Riley Hird and Sam McGlone.

Tynan Dove, Tim Robinson, Harvey Macri, Kaine O’Connell, Brodie McKenzie and Joel Gray worked hard for the Justin Robinson-coached Bombers.
