Marong takes points in Pyramid Hill

MARONG marked a 32-point victory at Pyramid Hill’s Mitchell Park in Saturday’s 13th round in Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL senior footy.

The Panthers made their way north to face the only team to have beaten them this season.

Pyramid Hill had first use of the breeze, but a wayward 3.6 would prove costly as the Panthers were within 16 points at the break.

Marong then won the second, 21-nil, to be up 29-24 at the long break.

Quarter three was to be one of Marong’s best of the season.

Despite playing into the wind the James Flaherty-coached Panthers scored 4.1 as the Bulldogs added 3.2.

Marong held a 10-point buffer going into the final term.

Inspired by the play of Jimmy Gadsden at ground level in centre ball-ups and stoppages it was Marong which kicked 3.6 in the last.

At the final siren Marong led 78-46.

The Panthers again showed they have plenty of scoring options.

Cooper Hale led Marong’s attack on three goals as Michael Bradbury, Brad Matthews and Ryley Taylor kicked two each.

Pyramid Hill’s only multiple goalkicker was Isaac Brill on two.

Best for Marong were Jimmy Gadsden, Brodie Hartland, Noah McCaig, Max Lowery, Wil Thomson and Declan Highgate.

Ruckman Tom Downie, captain Ben Knight, Lachlan Sidebottom, Ryan McGhie, Isaac Brill and Zach Alford were best for the Jarrod Fitzpatrick-coached Bulldogs.

Marong makes its way to Bridgewater for next Saturday’s clash between the league’s top two as Pyramid Hill is back at home again to play Calivil United.

Inglewood marked a 31-point win at Macorna and in doing so drew level on 28 points with the fourth-placed Tigers.

Macorna led 32-25 at half-time, but the Blues unleashed a brilliant third quarter blitz.

As Inglewood slammed on 5.7 in the third term it kept the Tigers scoreless.

The last went the way of the Blues, 26-25, as they won 88-57.

Coach Jackson Hood and Daniel Polack kicked two goals each for Inglewood.

The Tigers’ attack was led by Hunter Anset on two.

Best for the Blues were Thomas Kennedy, Charlie Aitken, Gabe Nevins, Liam Marciano and Will Allen.

Macorna’s best were Tom Ebbage, Xavier Wishart, Matt Colak, Kieran Foley, Sam and Laing Whinfield.

The Fergus Payne-coached Macorna plays at Newbridge next Saturday as Inglewood hosts Mitiamo at Centre State Scaffolding Oval.

It was back-to-back wins for Newbridge as the Maroons beat Calivil United by 41 points at Calivil Recreation Reserve.

The Demons led 14-5 at quarter-time before the Jayden Cordy-coached Maroons slammed on 7.2 in the second to lead 49-22 by the long break.

Defences were on top in the third as Newbridge scored 1.2 and Calivil United added three behinds.

The Maroons won the last, 28-19, on their way to an 85-44 victory.

Declan Campbell kicked three goals for Newbridge as Brodie Carr and the hard-running Zebb Murrell booted two each.

The Demons had six players slot a goal each.

Newbridge’s best were Declan Campbell, Max Edwards, James Blood, Zaiyden Richards, Zebb Murrell and Jack McInerney.

Best for the Sam Maher-coached Demons were Cody Thompson, Rhys Lourie, Will Allan, Josh Connolly, Henry McCarthy and Riley Walsh.

Bridgewater coach Lachie Sharp put on another lesson in forward craft as he slotted 11 goals in a 100-point win at home against Bears Lagoon-Serpentine.

A hard-fought opening term went Bridgewater’s way, 28-24.

From there the Mean Machine careered away as it scored five goals in the second term, eight in the third, and three in the last.

When the final siren sounded Bridgewater led 140-40.

Sharp’s tally of 11 put his season tally on 87 and his on track to boot a century of goals for the third season in a row with the Mean Machine.

Bridgewater also had Tom Broadbent boot two goals.

There were limited chances for the Bears forwards in which Farran Priest did well to slot two majors.

Best for Bridgewater were Darcy Wood, Lachie Sharp, Luke Ellings, Jack Neylon, Charlie Gibson and Harry Conway.

Nathan Twigg, Tanner Rayner, Tyler Miles, Xavier Cain and Llogan Mayman were best for the Jake Wilkinson-coached Bears.

A 55-point win by Maiden Gully YCW on Mitiamo’s ground at John Forbes Oval kept the Eagles in touch with the top five.

Maiden Gully YCW led 21-19 at quarter-time and 46-25 by the long break.

As the Eagles scored 3.5 in the third they kept the Superoos to just four behinds.
