NORTH Bendigo capped captain Aarryn Craig’s 300th senior match with a seven point victory against Mount Pleasant in Saturday’s 15th round in Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL senior footy.
The Bulldogs and Blues played out another thrilling on North Bendigo’s turf at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street.
The teams played out a 90-all draw when they met in the rematch of the ’25 grand final in round six at Toolleen.
A Bulldogs’ line-up coached by Rob Bennett, non-playing, and Ryan Hartley, playing, was determined to mark Craig’s milestone with a win and also end the Blues’ success against them.
Mount Pleasant started well to lead 29-15 at quarter-time.
First of North Bendigo’s goals was by Craig playing off half-back.
The Bulldogs blitzed in term two.
As North Bendigo scored 7.3 it kept Mounts to just two behinds.
It was 60-31 in favour of the Dogs at half-time.
The reigning premier struck back with seven goals in the third term to be within three points going into the final quarter.
North Bendigo won the last, 21-17, on its way to a 101-94 victory.
The Bulldogs’ attack was led by Jordan Ford and Dylan Klemm on three goals each as Aarryn Craig, Ryan Gillingham, Ryan Hartley and wingman Riley Paetow kicked two each.
Talented teen Ed Harrop kicked a match-high four goals for Mount Pleasant as Brodie Leonard-Shannon slotted three and Caelan Smith kicked two.
Best for the Bulldogs were Ryan Hartley, Jordan Ford, Bailey Cain, Aarryn Craig, Harrison Jarvie and Ryan Gilligham.
Mount Pleasant’s best were Mitch Bennett, key defender Jett Nicholas, Caelan Smith, Ed Harrop, Jack Hickman and Nick Edwards.
Heathcote dominated its match on Elmore’s ground.
The Saints raced to a 50-13 lead by quarter-time and then scored 4.5 as they kept the Bloods to a point in the second term.
A 65-point lead for Heathcote at the main break became 74 going into the last as key forwards Dylan Johnstone and Sean Williams starred in attack.
By the final siren Heathcote led 138-43.
After playing in the ruck the previous week, Dylan Johnstone marked his return to the forward line by kicking eight goals as Sean Williams slotted five.
Other multiple goalkickers for the Saints were Ryan Foster and Hugh Freckleton with two.
Was a tough afternoon for Elmore’s forwards where Mychael Baker and Lachie Gawel kicked two each.
Best for Heathcote were gun on-baller/mid Stefan Rasinac, co-coach Liam Jacques, Dylan Johnstone, Callum Birch, Dillon Williams and Seb Barnett.
Matt Filo, Jarrad Kyne, Rhys Holmberg, Kynan Sharpe, Peter Rothacker and Mychael Baker were best for the Luke Freeman-coached Bloods.
A Heathcote team which has Andrew Saladino as non-playing co-coach will now tackle North Bendigo in next Saturday’s clash at Pigeon Park in Heathcote’s Barrack Reserve.
Colbinabbin scored a 10-goal win at home against Leitchville Gunbower at M.J. Morgan Oval.
The Linton Jacobs-coached Colbinabbin led 30-12 at quarter-time.
The LG Bombers fought back to win the second term, 19-15.
Goalkicking accuracy was a highlight in the third as Colbinabbin booted 6.0 and the Bombers replied with 2.0.
The Grasshoppers won the last, 24-2, on their way to a 105-45 victory.
Gun forward Brandyn Grenfell led Colbinabbin’s attack on six goals as Alex Carr and Sam Ryan added two each.
Leading goalkickers for the Bombers were Blake and Jack Dye on three each.
Colbinabbin’s best were Daniel Hill, Ben Barton, Brandyn Grenfell, Sam Ryan, Isaac Carracher and Josh Smithson.
Charles Hancock, Kyle Green, James Brereton, Jack Dye, Zeb Ellwood and Hawley Wells were best for the Joel Donehue-coached Bombers.
Lockington Bamawm United fought on for an eight-point win against the Harlowe Huntly Hawks at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.
Fog blanketed the ground all match.
The Jayden Howe-coached LBU started well to lead 18-9 at quarter-time.
Huntly hit back to win term two, 14-12.
Goals were at a premium in the second half.
Huntly scored 1.3 in the third as the Cats added five behinds.
The play of Brayden Hull to kick three of LBU’s goals was crucial in what became a 47-39 victory for the Cats.
Other goalkickers for LBU were Joel Felmingham, Jack O’Callaghan, Tyler Phillips and Bowden Stone.
A list of Huntly’s goalkickers was not supplied.
Best for the Cats were Marcus Angove at centre half-back, Cooper Mitchell, Bowden Stone, Patrick Keele, Brayden Hull and James Brentnall.
Huntly’s best were Brodie Fry, Abe Sladden, Harrison Campbell, Will Lee, Dale Lowry and Darcy Lawler.
It was the fifth time this season the Hamish Morcom-coached Hawks have been beaten by a margin below 12 points.
White Hills had the bye.

In the netball action……THE Lockington Bamawm United Cats scored an upset win against Huntly in Saturday’s 15th round of A-grade netball in the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL season.
What would be LBU’s fourth win of the season was its best as the LBU Cats claimed a 58-48 victory on their court at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.
The Stacy Bacon-coached LBU is now a win behind the fifth and sixth-placed North Bendigo and Elmore at three rounds to go in the home-and-away series.
Defeat has put the heat on the Kym Bell and Ash Sherlock-coached Huntly which is fourth on 22 points.
Results in the three other matches went as expected.
Elmore was in great touch on its court against Heathcote.
The Adam Boldiston-coached Bloods marked a 70-34 victory against the Saints.
When the clubs met in round six it was Elmore which won 47-45 on Heathcote’s court at Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve.
The Bloods face another test at Leitchville next Saturday against Leitchville Gunbower as the Brooke Price-coached Heathcote prepares to host North Bendigo.
Reigning premier Colbinabbin passed the 85-goal mark once again.
The Jen McIntyre-coached Grasshoppers dominated play on their court at M.J. Morgan to score an 87-31 win against Leitchville Gunbower.
Was another tough afternoon for the Katie Pollock-coached LG Bombers.
Mount Pleasant capped its trek to Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street with another big win.
The Anthea McCleary-coached Blues outplayed the Bulldogs across four quarters.
At the final siren Mounts led 65-31.
The Kiralee Kinder-coached North Bendigo will be striving to break a four-match losing streak when it plays at Heathcote next Saturday.
Back in round seven it was Heathcote which scored a 45-35 victory on North Bendigo’s court.
