SEA Lake Nandaly Tigers broke Wedderburn’s unbeaten run in Saturday’s 13th round in Goldacres North Central senior footy.
A 62-point victory at Sea Lake Oval also put the Tigers on top of the ladder as the Redbacks dropped to the second rung.
It was 102-point turnaround from the round six showdown at Wedderburn’s Donaldson Park where the red and black beat SLN by 40 points.
A 10-goal blitz by the Tigers in the second quarter of last Saturday’s clash gave the yellow and black a 41-point lead by half-time.
Wedderburn hit back to win the third quarter, 16-13, but it was the Tigers who finished with plenty of run.
As the Tigers scored six straight goals in the last the Redbacks added two majors.
Sea Lake Nandaly was up 118-56 at the final siren.
Brandon Bailey capped a best-on-ground performance with four goals as Max Cahoon also kicked four goals.
Other multiple goalkickers for SLN were Lachy McClelland and Billy McInnes on three as Thomas Cox chipped in with two.
Wedderburn’s attack was led by Oscar Holt on three goals.
Best for Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers were Brandon Bailey, Thomas Cox, Cooper Roberts, Wade Donnan, Zac Kelly and Lachy McClelland.
The Redbacks’ best were Jye Mortlock, Oscar Holt, Noah Furlong, Hamish Lockhart, Louis Holt and Darcy Jackson.
An SLN team which has Boyd Bailey and Wade Donnan as playing co-coaches is now in pole position to finish the home-and-away series on top of the ladder.
The Tom Metherell-coached Wedderburn will be aiming to bounce back from its first defeat in ’26 when it hosts St Arnaud next round.
Calder United Lions fought for a 20-point victory in last Saturday’s match on Donald’s ground.
The Lions led 23-14 at quarter-time and charged to a 51-27 lead by the long break.
As Calder United scored seven goals in the third it kept the Royal Blues to just two majors.
It was a 56-point margin going into the last.
Donald almost doubled its score in the final term as it slammed on 6.1 and kept the Lions to a behind.
At the final siren the Jordan Humphreys and Tom Bickley-coached Lions led 96-76.
Steven Stroobants capped a superb match with six goals as the experienced Justin Laird and Rick Allan added three and two goals.
Donald’s attack was led by Daniel Pearce on two goals.
Best for Calder United Lions were Boe Bish, Dean Putt, Zach Caccaviello, Oscar Madden, Steven Stroobants and George Turner.
The Royal Blues’ best were Thomas Guljas, Blake Grant, Parker Sneddon, Bill Sam and Daniel Pearce.
Donald is jointly coached by Daniel Pearce and Matt Walder.
It was a high-scoring showdown between St Arnaud and Boort at St Arnaud’s Lord Nelson Park.
The Saints led 49-38 at quarter-time and 82-62 by the long break.
Quarter three was when St Arnaud was able to break clear.
As the Saints added 6.1 the Magpies scored 4.1.
The Andew Rutley-coached Boort worked hard to win the final quarter, 25-23, but it was St Arnaud which marked a 142-112 victory.
Max Hungerford and Torin Petrie led the St Arnaud attack on five goals each as Jay Kirwood kicked four and Will Jackson slotted three.
Leading goalkicker for Boort was Kayne Rutley on four as Connor Dalgleish and Jack Smith slotted three each and Lachlan Fitzgerald chipped in with two.
St Arnaud’s best were Nick Maishman, Harrison Saunders, Max Hungerford, Joe Maishman, Jay Kirwood and Darby Schilder.
The Saints are jointly coached by Harley Durward and Darby Schilder.
Boort’s best were Liam Bianco, Connor Dalgleish, James Byrne, Carlos Egan, Jack Smith and Kayne Rutley.
The Birchip-Watchem Bulls passed the 200-point mark at Charlton Park.
The Ash Connick-coached Bulls led 35-nil at quarter-time and 72-8 by the long break.
After a 12-goal blitz in the third, Birchip-Watchem added eight in the last to complete a 201-14 victory.
Gun forward Ricardo Liparota kicked seven goals for the Bulls as Rhonda Conboy booted six.
Other multiple goalkickers were Mac Lewis, four; Ben Lakin, three; Daniel Bell and Zane Connick, two.
Xav Tadd and Jed Thompson were on target for Charlton.
Best for Birchip-Watchem were Rhona Conboy, Zane Connick, Mac Lewis, Joseph Madio, Ben Lakin and Ty Colbert.
Jeff Debast, Ben Lanyon, Jed Thompson, Xav Tadd, Jaydon Stiles and Ethan Soulsby were best for the Carl Thiesz-coached Navies.
