IT WAS a mischief of Magpies as Castlemaine’s and Maryborough’s under-16 seniors teams clashed on Sunday in week seven of the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League season.
Castlemaine had home-ground advantage at Wesley Hill, but it was Maryborough which marked a big win.
At quarter-time Maryborough led 21-15.
The Borough added 3.5 to just two behinds in the second and then slammed on 8.2 to three behinds in the third.
At the final siren, Maryborough led 126-40.
Logan Howell was in superb touch as he kicked nine goals.
Other multiple goalkickers for Maryborough were Mitch Stork, three; Zac Cicchini, Jack Skinner and Sam Thomson, two.
Goalkickers for Castlemaine were Jeremy Barnes, Oliver Britt, Oscar Giddings, Ben Jardine and Mitchell McKnight.
Maryborough’s best were Logan Howell, Cale Wright, Mitch Stork, Jasper Trickey, Sam Thomson and Chardy Bond.
Mitchell McKnight, Oliver Britt, Oscar Giddings, Magnus Britton and Ngolueth Nyok played well for Castlemaine.
The Castlemaine Magpies had three other teams in action across the weekend.
Castlemaine played Golden Square in the under-16 girls match on Sunday at Wesley Hill.
The Magpies scored 1.7 as the Bulldogs kicked 5.8.
Maddyson Hewson was on target for Castlemaine.
Best for the Magpies were Tayah Williams, Chloe Drew, Tegan Barry, Maddyson Hewson, Chloe Butcher and Lori Whaley.
In the under-14 reserves, division one competition it was Castlemaine against Rochester at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve.
The Magpies were down 17-19 at half-time, but turned the contest as they scored 5.1 to 2.0 in the third quarter.
Castlemaine went on to win 59-33.
The Magpies’ attack was led by Max Kay on two goals as Jack Archer, Logan Browne-Kerr, Levi Bruce, Max Matheson, Jedd Oxley and Zachary Thompson added one each.
Best for Castlemaine were Zachary Thompson, Max Morgan, Jack Archer, Max Matheson, Archie Thompson and Jakoby Noulton.
Castlemaine faced South Bendigo in the under-12B match at Wesley Hill on Saturday.
The young Bloods led 22-1 on their way to a 43-13 victory against the Magpies.
Jimmy Butler and Spencer Grainger kicked goals for Castlemaine.
Best for the Magpies were Charlie Cordy, Zane Davidge, Abraham Harrington, Jude O’Sullivan, Louis Parsons and Seth McGill.
Maryborough had two other teams in action.
The under-12B line-up was on home turf at Maryborough’s Princes Park on Saturday to play Eaglehawk Eagles.
The Eagles led 12-2 at half-time, but the Pies were within four points at three quarter-time after a goal by Mason Trickey.
Eaglehawk kicked away in the last to win 34-11.
Best for Maryborough were Jack Smith, Cruz Stevens, Tyson Smith, Maddox Stevens and Coltyn Brydon.
The Magpies featured in a high-scoring under-14 reserves, division two match against Sandhurst at Bendigo’s Ewing Park.
Sandhurst led 9-6 at quarter-time and scored 4.8 to nil in the second.
The Magpies fought back strongly to score 3.1 to 2.1 in the third term.
Although Maryborough won the final quarter, 27-15, it was the Dragons who took the premiership points in a 69-52 result.
Goalkickers for Maryborough were Chase Larkin and Darcy Wood, two; Oliver Cassidy, Jayden Humphrey and Wil Smith.
Best for the Magpies were Jase Cicchini, Oliver Cassidy, Hayden Bartlett, Kaleb Jardine, Chase Larkin and Darcy Wood.
