THE Lions from Hay roared loudly on Saturday as they ended Ultima’s unbeaten run in the 11th round of senior footy in the Golden Rivers competition.
Hay was on home turf to tackle the ladder-leaders.
It was the Ultima Kangaroos who bounded away to lead 23-8 by quarter-time.
The Lions lifted their intensity and run in the second to score 7.5 to 2.2.
An 18-point lead for Hay at half-time was 17 going into the final quarter after Ultima won the third, 9-8.
It was a closely-fought final term in which Hay scored 3.2 to 2.4 to complete an 83-62 victory.
Declan Watson was in superb touch for the Lions as he kicked eight goals and captain Kenneth Jubb added two.
Ultima’s only multiple goalkicker was Kyle Symons on four.
Best for Hay were Dom Booth, Luke Arandt, Daniel Zambon, Declan Watson, Jeromy Watts and Liam Whitbourne.
Tyler Makepeace, Darcy Farrell, Thomas Bull, Kyle Symons, Jake Foster and Martyn Cooper were Ultima’s best.
Macorna fought from seven points down at the start of the final term to clinch a 42-38 win at home against Wandella.
It was the Bombers who dominated term one on Macorna’s turf to lead 2.6 (18) to nil at the first break.
Macorna struck back to score four straight goals in the second as Wandella added two behinds.
The Bombers added two goals to a behind in the third term.
Led by the play of Jordan Simpson, Jacob McIntosh and Nick Ingleton the Tigers clawed their way to a dramatic victory.
Lachlan Ritchie, Shaun Haffenden and Jack Featherby also played well for the yellow and black.
Wandella’s best were Russell Rich, Tim Robinson, Ryan Lancaster, Declan Hogg, Mitch Collins and Jarred Schlitz.
Moulamein marked a 15-goal win at home against Murrabit.
The Swans led 36-1 at quarter-time and 61-19 by the long break.
Moulamein added 5.4 to 1.1 in the third, and six goals to 2.3 in the last to complete a 131-41 victory.
The Swans’ attack was led by Josh Flight on seven goals.
Other multiple goalkickers were Daniel Aarsman, Heath Moloney, Andy Silva and Khy Stovell on two.
Damian Cupido and Brayden Turvey booted two goals for Murrabit.
Moulamein’s best were James Moroney, Michael Morson, Eddy Schifferle, Morgan Turvey, Anthony Daw and Lachie Martin.
Dustin Blake, Tobie Cameron, Jono Aujard, Morgan Randall, Brayden Turvey and Ben Gillingham worked hard for the Blues.
Golden Rivers FNL senior footy ladder:
Ultima 167 per cent, 40 points; Moulamein 124, 32; Hay 115, 28; Macorna 95, 16; Wandella 77, 8; Murrabit 54, 8.
In next Saturday’s round 12 action, Moulamein is at home to play Macorna from 2.25pm.
Murrabit plays Hay at Murrabit Recreation Reserve.
Ultima is on its ground against Wandella.
