THE Hay Lions roared to a 15-goal victory against Macorna in the Golden Rivers FNL senior footy first semi-final on Saturday.
Eight goals to nil in the opening term put Hay well in control of the contest on Moulamein’s turf.
The Lions scored 12.10 in the first half as Macorna rued inaccuracy as its tally was 10 behinds.
Term three went Hay’s way, 44-26.
Both line-ups scored two goals in the last as the Lions marked an impressive victory, 21.16 (142) to 6.16 (52).
Simon Bunyan and Declan Watson led Hay’s attack on five goals.
Other multiple goalkickers for the Lions were Cooper Scott, three; Joel Crocker, Jensen Hargreaves and Jack Headon.
Goalkickers for Macorna were Jack Featherby, Alex Ingleton, Alex Kirby, Lachlan Ritchie, Jordan Simpson and Chris Wilson.
Hay’s best were Kenneth Jubb, Tom Spence, Jack Headon, Fergus Cattanach, Jensen Hargreaves and James Moran.
Hunter Anset, Toby Whinfield, Lachlan Thompson, Michael Roberts, Jordan Simpson and Nick Ingleton were best for the yellow and black.
Wandella fought from a nine-point deficit at quarter-time to mark a 10-point win against Murrabit.
Down 19-9 at the first break, Wandella scored 3.3 to 0.3 in the second quarter.
Murrabit won the third, 9-8, but it was the Bombers who finished strongly to score 3.1 to 2.4.
At the final siren the red and black led 8.9 (57) to 6.11 (47).
Goalkickers for the Bombers were Ryan Jardine, two; Troy Banfield, Andrew Charles, Jack Danckert, Brock Henderson, Adam McKenzie and Corey Walters.
Nathan Henry kicked a match-high four goals for the Blues as Josh Bray added two.
Best for Wandella were Bailey Hamon, Tanner Treacy, Adam McKenzie, Austin Crellin, Brock Henderson and Jack Danckert.
Murrabit’s best were Samuel Copland, Josh Bray, Matthew Penny, Adam Bujdoso, Michael Zambelli and Simon Morton.
In the under-17 ½ competition, Moulamein dominated after half-time of the clash with Wandella.
The Swans led 28-7 at quarter-time before the Bombers fought back to win the second term, 20-13.
Moulamein scored 4.3 to a goal in the third and won the last, 20-14, for a 13.10 (88) to 7.5 (47) result.
Swans’ captain Ethan Miller kicked five goals as Lochlan Prentice chipped in with three.
Other goalkickers for Moulamein were Lachie Martin, two; Ethan Fitzpatrick, Elijah Prentice and Jacob Skipsey.
The Bombers’ attack was led by Archer Lancaster on three.
Other goalkickers for Wandella were Zac Mellington, Deeghan Roy, Jardal Simons and Parker Treacy.
Best for Moulamein were Lachie Martin, Joseph Herold, Lochlan Prentice, Ethan Fitzpatrick, Tyler Alford and Jacob Skipsey.
Wandella’s best were Griffin Fowler, Myles Greenwood, Archer Lancaster, Laing Waddingham, Zac and Will Mellington.
First of this year’s finals was the under-14 ½ match between Ultima and Hay.
Both teams scored a goal in the first term.
Ultima won the second, 1.1 to 0.5.
The Kangaroos led 26-18 at three quarter-time.
Defences were well on top in the last as the Roos and Lions added a point each.
At the final siren, Ultima led 27-19.
Archie O’Toole kicked two goals for the Kangaroos as Oliver Alderuccio and Rory Bell were also on target.
Details on Hay’s goalkickers were not supplied.
Ultima’s best were Rory Bell, Nate Keam, Oliver Alderuccio, Riley Hender, Archie O’Toole and Mark Lewamba.
Archie Houston, Josh Gardiner, Alex Giddins, Harry Houston, Max Hutchings and Levi Gray were Hay’s best.
Second semi-finals will be played next Saturday at Ultima Football Netball Club.
The Ultima Kangaroos have home-ground advantage for the seniors clash with Moulamein which starts at 2.40pm.
Ultima takes on Macorna in the reserves clash from 12.35pm.
It’s a showdown between the under-17 ½ teams from Macorna and Ultima at 10.45am.
The day’s action kicks off at 9.35am with the under-14 ½ match between Macorna and Wandella.
