AFL CV Gala Day | North Central netballers claim Fosterville Gold Mine Cup

UNBEATEN in six matches across three age groups, North Central Netball Association captured the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Cup after Sunday’s matches at Marist College Bendigo in Maiden Gully.

A big day of netball and football action which involved five leagues was proudly backed by the largest gold miner in Victoria.

On the netball court it was North Central’s young stars who shone.

First of the 13-and-under netball matches was between Heathcote District FNL and Loddon Valley FNL.

The Heathcote squad won 23-8.

In game two it was North Central which powered to a 32-19 win against Heathcote.

The NC line-up then defeated Loddon Valley, 29-11 in game three.

Most Valuable Player awards went to Milla Adams, North Central; Taya Tamblyn, Heathcote; and Imogen Brown, Loddon Valley.

A winning run for North Central in 15-and-under netball started with a 28-16 result against Heathcote.

It was a high-scoring second match which went North Central’s way, 34-22 against Loddon Valley.

Heathcote struck back to score a 30-24 victory against LV in game three.

Most Valuable Player awards went to Libby Thompson, North Central; Kasey Stone, Heathcote; and Sophie Tyrrell, Loddon Valley.

There were high-scoring matches at 17-and-under level.

In game one, North Central marked a 43-22 win against Loddon Valley.

Heathcote then scored a 35-27 win against LV’s rising stars.

Match three was to decide the age group champion which North Central scored a 32-15 win against Heathcote DFNL.

Most Valuable Player awards went to Macie Mortlock, North Central; Telani Bibby, Heathcote; and Kaitlin Broad, Loddon Valley.

On the football field, North Central took on Maryborough Castlemaine DFNL in the under-15 boys’ match.

The NC team won 14.15 (99) to 8.12 (60).

Frankie Donald was named MVP for North Central, and Sam Ross for the MCDFNL team.

There were three round-robin matches in the under-18 boys’ football action.

Central Victoria marked a 6.7 (43) to 1.3 (9) win against Maryborough Castlemaine.

In game two it was Heathcote DFNL which charged to a 7.8 (50) to 1.3 (9) victory against the CV squad.

Heathcote DFNL capped a great series as it beat Maryborough Castlemaine, 13.8 (86) to 1.2 (8).

Most Valuable Player awards went to Jude Ryan, Heathcote DFNL; Gabe Nevins, CVFL; and Jovian Goulton, Maryborough Castlemaine.
