THE Tigers’ teams from Woorinen, Kyneton and Rochester marked a great start to the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League’s season across the weekend.

Woorinen Tigers won the under-18 girls match at home against Golden Square by 39 points.

After a long trek north to Woorinen’s ground, Golden Square led 19-12 at half-time.

The Tigers dominated the third term to add 4.4 to nil on the way to an 8.11 (59) to 3.2 (20).

Best for Woorinen were Emilie Ward, Madison Johnston, Demi Greenwood and Samantha Johnston.

Stephanie Demeo, Holly McPhee, Gabrielle Drage and Olivia Hogg played well for Golden Square.

In the under-16 girls competition, Kyneton took on Sandhurst at Ewing Park.

The Tigers led 15-8 at half-time, but Sandhurst upped its play to score 3.5 to a point in the third and 3.2 to two points in the last.

At the final siren, Sandhurst led 51-16.

Chloe Naughton kicked three goals and Ava Bibby added two majors for the maroon and blue.

Kyneton’s goalkickers were Charlotte Pennefather and Jasmine Short.

Best for Sandhurst were Lacey Nihill, Mayah Chilver, Ava Franklin, Olivia Lacy, Ava Bibby and Chloe Naughton.

Darcie Carrucan, Lucinda Barry, Eliza Coutts and Melia Hayes played well for the yellow and black.

Winners in the under-14 girls matches were White Hills, Strathfieldsaye, and Sandhurst.

Grading matches were played for the under-16 boys, under-14 mixed, and under-12 mixed.

In the under-16 boys competition, Kyneton took on White Hills in the Demons’ den at Scott Street.

Kyneton led 20-14 at quarter-time, but the Demons struck back to lead 24-21 at the main break.

A closely-fought third term was won by the Tigers, 20-13, but it was White Hills which added 2.4 to nil in the last to win 53-41.

The Demons’ attack was led by Caleb Tobin, three; and Ben Masters, two.

Jye Chambers and Bailey Ryan kicked two goals each for the Tigers.

Best for White Hills were Isaac Meersbergen, O’Malley Parker, Patrick Conlan, Oliver Edmiston, Caleb Tobin and Hsar Ler Htoo.

Jye Chambers, Harry May, Ryder Henchie, Jed Pertzel, Hunter Murray and Brandan Jeffrey played well for the yellow and black.

In the under-14 mixed grading, Rochester scored a 113-22 victory against Marong.

Kyneton took on Golden Square and won 46-41.

In under-12 mixed, Kyneton Yellow won by a big margin against White Hills, while Kyneton Black was defeated by Strathfieldsaye.
