Sandhurst Dragons fire across many age groups

THE talented youngsters representing Sandhurst were in hot form across the weekend’s 13th round in the Bendigo Bank-backed Bendigo Junior Football League season.

The Dragons had six teams in action as another had the bye.

Sandhurst faced Kyneton Tigers in the under-16 seniors match on Sunday at Ewing Park in Bendigo.

The Dragons led 43-0 at half-time and went on to win 106-7.

Hunter Connors and Declan Stevenson led the attack on three goals each as Harvey White added two.

Best for the second-placed Dragons were Isaac Tzouroutis, Declan Stevenson, Hunter Connors, Jack English, Deakin Andrews and Charles Duke.

Sandhurst dominated the under-16 girls’ match against Castlemaine at Wesley Hill on Sunday.

The maroon and blue won 46-1 as Ava Bibby and Charlotte Scanlon kicked two goals each.

Sandhurst’s best were Shanae Daly, Olivia Lacy, Charlotte Scanlon, Tanisha Daly, Mayah Chilver and Lily Franklin.

 

Unbeaten in the under-14 seniors competition, Sandhurst’s hot form rolled on in Sunday’s match against South Bendigo at Ewing Park.

Harry Carter kicked three goals as Eamon Austin and Charlie Bannan added two each in a 79-11 victory.

Best for the Dragons were Lenny McNamara, Charlie Bannan, Ned Howe, Oliver Stewart, Chase Poyser and Hudson Banfield.

Sandhurst won the under-16 reserves, division one match with Marong by 21 points.

The Dragons led 41-10 at half-time at Ewing Park, but the Panthers clawed their way back to win the third term, 20-16.

Although Marong outscored Sandhurst in the last quarter, 14-8, the Dragons took the four premiership points in a 65-44 result.

Oscar Farrelly and Madden Guthrie kicked two goals apiece for Sandhurst.

Best for the Dragons were Jack Harvey, Will Bennett, Thomas Davie, Oscar Farrelly, Harvey White and Charles Kealy.

 

There were plenty of goalkickers for Sandhurst in the under-14 reserves, division two match played against Huntly Hawks at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve.

Griffin O’Shea kicked five goals as Henry O’Callaghan, four, and Cooper Richardson, three, were on target and among the best in the 116-2 win.

The Dragons’ best included William Jeffrey, Zane MacDonald and Ryder Comer.

The Dragons had the bye in the under-14 reserves, division one competition.

In the under-14 girls’ competition, Sandhurst played White Hills at the Scott Street ground in White Hills.

Sandhurst was incredibly accurate as it scored 6.2, but the Demons racked up 5.15 to win by seven points.

Allira James kicked three goals for the maroon and blue as Hannah Cochrane added two.

Sandhurst’s best were Hannah Cochrane, Ryah Mackie, Leni Brown, Ellie Bellenger, Evie Pay and Nicole Wills.
