Dragons fire in many junior matches

SANDHURST Dragons were in hot form across many age groups in the weekend’s fifth round of the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League season.

In the under-16 seniors competition, Sandhurst took on long-time rival South Bendigo at Kennington’s Harry Trott Oval.

The Dragons raced to a 28-nil lead by quarter-time and then scored 3.1 to 1.2 in the second.

Miller Armstrong and Noah Willits went on to kick three goals each as the Dragons marked a 74-11 victory against the Bloods.

Best for Sandhurst were Harry Byrne, Thomas Smith, Chase Poyser, Ned Howe and Noah Willits.

Sandhurst met Huntly in the under-16 reserves, division two match at Winslow Constructors Oval in White Hills.

The Dragons scored six straight goals in the first quarter to gain a 29-point lead.

Huntly hit back to win the second term, 10-8.

Sandhurst slammed on 8.3 in the third quarter and went on to record a 17.9 (111) to 3.6 (24) victory.

The Dragons’ attack was led by Jett Craig on seven goals as Lucas Fazzalori and Campbell Fraser added two.

Best for Sandhurst were Campbell Fraser, Zane MacDonald, Cooper Richardson, Rafferty Brasier, Jett Craig and William Lacy.

Sandhurst faced Eaglehawk in the under-15 girls seniors match at California Gully.

The maroon and blue led 21-nil at quarter-time and 31-6 by the main break.

Led by the play of Kyah Spiteri, Elodie Sharman and Zara Mould, Sandhurst kicked on for a 53-6 victory.

Alannah Prowse led Sandhurst’s attack on two goals.

Best for the Dragons included Macey Pinner and Grace Clark.

In the under-15 Girls reserves competition, Sandhurst played Kangaroo Flat on the Roos’ ground at Dower Park.

Sandhurst worked hard to be within two goals of the Roos at quarter-time.

Across the next three terms it was Kangaroo Flat which added 61 points as the maroon and blue scored nine points.

At the final siren the Roos led 86-22.

A list of Sandhurst’s goalkickers and best players was not supplied.

Sandhurst passed the century mark in the under-14 seniors match against South Bendigo at Harry Trott Oval.

Dragons’ captain Luke Cameron kicked 10 goals in a superb best afield performance.

The Dragons led 54-18 at half-time and won the second half, 51-28.

At the final siren, Sandhurst was up 16.9 (105) to 7.4 (46).

Other multiple goakickers for the Dragons were Jamison and Knox Westley on two.

Sandhurst’s best attack were Luke Cameron, Patrick McNamara, Jaxon Kelly, Knox and Jamison Westley, and Duncan Strachan.

In under-14 reserves, division two it was Sandhurst against South Bendigo at Harry Trott Oval.

This contest went the way of the young Bloods, 63-36.

Goalkickers for the Dragons were Mitch Hannaford, Charles Matthews, Henry Sherwood and Cathal Whelan.

Best for Sandhurst were Charles Matthews, Charles Nihill, Henry Sherwood, Mitch Hannaford, Will Muscat and Lincon Kent.
