BJFL Week 9 Review | Huntly Hawks keep flying high

THE young Hawks from Huntly are flying high across three age groups in the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League.

After nine weeks, Huntly has three teams in the top four and another in fifth place.

Among the highs for the Hawks in last weekend’s play was a four-point victory in the under-14 reserves, division one match against Strathfieldsaye at Triple M Park in Tannery Lane.

Huntly led 38-19 at three quarter-time before Storm surged back into the contest by scoring 3.4 to 1.1 in the last term.

At the final siren the Hawks led 6.9 (45) to 5.11 (41).

Goalkickers for Huntly were Hudson Archer and Angus McLean, two; and captain Oscar Davies.

Best for the Hawks were Miller Connors, Lorcan Mulryan, Oscar Davies, Oscar Kleinert, Zethan Jensen and Caleb Pellegrino.

In the under-14 reserves, division two competition it was Huntly Brown which headed west to play Maryborough at Princes Park.

The Maryborough line-up won 140 to 33.

Ryder Enright and Ryder Marriott kicked two goals for the Hawks as Rhys Fahy was also on target.

Huntly’s best were Rhys Fahy, Rhys Pitson, Cash Caldis, Malakai Challis, Anthony Callanan and Jordan Giudice.

Huntly Gold was on home turf at Strauch Reserve for the under-12B match against St Kilian’s St Peter’s Gold.

Gold shone on both sides as St Kilian’s-St Peter’s claimed a 60-15 victory.

Nash Campbell and James Clark were Huntly’s goalkickers.

Best for the Hawks were Kyan Manson, Ollie Wright, Callum Fahy, Isaac Plant, Blake Maher and Ted Cowan.

Huntly Brown was also at Strauch Reserve for the under-12C match against Strathfieldsaye.

Storm led 31-1 at half-time on the way to a 51-13 victory.

Riley Stevens and Trystan Waters goaled for Huntly.

The Hawks’ best were Mitchell McCashney, Flynn Corboy, Riley Stevens, James Moorhead, Evangeline Niblett and Henry Kleinert.

A brilliant first half set up Huntly’s win in the under-16 reserves, division match against Strathfieldsaye at Triple M Park.

The Hawks scored 7.5 to 1.1 in the first half on the way to an 80-22 victory.

Goalkickers for Huntly were Jack Mullane, four; Harley Matthews, two; Charlie Cowan, Koby Loftus, Ben Miller, Noah Pellegrino and Jacob Saunders.

Best for the brown and gold were Jacob Saunders, Noah Pellegrino, Ben Miller, Jack Mullane, Harley Matthews and Rohan Griffin.
