Bridgewater strives to break Mitiamo’s unbeaten run

BRIDGEWATER will be aiming to stop Mitiamo’s winning run at seven in this Saturday’s ninth round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League.

The Bridgewater line-up has home-court advantage at Bridgewater Bakehouse Oval as it takes on a team that has not vied for premiership points since May 22.

Most recent hit-out for Mitiamo was the seventh round when it scored a 56-44 win against Pyramid Hill on the Superoos’ court at John Forbes Oval.

The fourth-placed Bridgewater has a win-loss tally of 5-2 and goes into this contest fresh from a 14-goal win on Pyramid Hill’s court at Mitchell Park.

Another crucial match will be played at Discover Marong Park in Malone Park where Marong faces Newbridge.

The Panthers are locked on a 3-4 record with Pyramid Hill, but are more than eight per cent adrift.

Marong scored a 44-38 win at Inglewood’s Dissy Machinery Oval last Saturday as Newbridge was beaten by 25 goals in its home game with Calivil United at Simonds Homes Riverside Park.

The second-placed Maiden Gully YCW Eagles will be keen to regain the momentum as they host Inglewood at Marist College Oval.

The Eagles have been on an extended break as the club played Bears Lagoon Serpentine last round.

The Bears are not fielding an A-grade team.

Maiden Gully YCW won its opening four games before a 19-goal loss to Mitiamo at Marist College Oval in the sixth round.

Although it has marked just the one victory, Inglewood put in a great effort to be within six goals of Marong last round.

The Blues worked hard to bounce back from defeats of 26 and 40 goals against Newbridge and Calivil United.

Pyramid Hill hosts Bears Lagoon Serpentine in the lower grades at Mitchell Park, but the Bulldogs take a break in the top grade.

Calivil United has the bye.

Standings in the Loddon Valley FNL’s A-grade netball competition:

Mitiamo 135 per cent, 28 points; Maiden Gully YCW Eagles 113, 24; Calivil United 117, 20; Bridgewater 111, 20; Pyramid Hill 105, 12; Marong 97, 12; Newbridge 71, 8; Inglewood 55, 4.
