CMFNL Netball Grand Final Preview | Nine clubs feature across netball grand finals


NINE clubs will be represented in the Central Murray FNL netball grand finals on Saturday at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve.

In A-grade it’s the battle of the birds as the Magpies from Lake Boga take on the Swans of Swan Hill from 2.50pm.

Most recent meeting between these teams was the second semi-final where Lake Boga clinched a 43-42 victory.

Their only showdown in the home-and-away series was in the 10th round where Lake Boga won 48-45 on Swan Hill’s court.

The Swans’ run to the grand final began with an 11-goal win against Woorinen in the qualifying final and then loss to the Magpies a week later.

Swan Hill hit back for a 59-54 victory against Mallee Eagles in last Saturday’s preliminary final.

In A-reserve, Mallee Eagles face Balranald from 1.20pm.

When they met in round nine the Eagles soared to a 51-33 victory on Balranald’s court at Greenham Park.

The Kangaroos from Balranald have fought their way from an elimination final.

On day two of the final series Balranald ended Lake Boga’s season in a 48-44 result.

Next two hit-outs for the Roos have ended in a 46-35 win against Woorinen in the first semi, and 39-37 victory against Lake Boga in the preliminary final.

After finishing the home-and-away series on top of the ladder, Mallee was first to the grand final after a 62-59 win against Lake Boga in the second semi.

Woorinen takes on Koondrook Barham in the B-grade match at 11.50am.

It was one-all when these teams met in the home-and-away series.

Woorinen scored a 59-29 victory at home in round five.

The round 16 match at Barham ended in a 36-34 victory for the River Raiders.

Been a much easier run for Woorinen to the grand final.

After finishing on top of the ladder the Tigers marked a 37-32 win against Nyah Nyah West United in the second semi.

Koondrook Barham hit back from a three-goal loss to NNWU Demons in the qualifying final to beat Swan Hill by four goals in the first semi, and then won 36-29 against Nyah Nyah West United in the preliminary final.

It’s Koondrook Barham against Kerang in the B-reserve match from 1.20pm.

Their only meeting in the home-and-away series ended in a 43-39 win for Koondrook Barham at Kerang’s Riverside Park in the eighth round.

A 45-43 win by the River Raiders against Swan Hill in the second semi put the KB team into the season decider.

Kerang has fought its way from an elimination final.

The Blues beat Cohuna, 37-33 on day two of the finals series and have since knocked out Balranald, 55-41, and Swan Hill, 32-31.

Top teams in the 18-and-under competition, Cohuna and Tyntynder will clash from 10.20am.

After an unbeaten run in the home-and-away series, Tyntynder went  down to Cohuna in the second semi, 42-39.

Their previous meeting ended in a 55-37 win for the Bulldogs on Cohuna’s court in the 10th round.

Cohuna scored a 49-45 win against Mallee Eagles in the qualifying final.

Stung by the second semi loss, Tyntynder fought on for a 29-27 victory against Mallee Eagles in the preliminary final.

The Tigers won both matches in the home-and-away series by 11 and three goals and then beat Kerang by eight goals in the second semi.

Kerang’s run in the finals began with a one-goal win against Tooleybuc-Manangatang in the qualifying final.

The Blues marked a 49-45 victory against Cohuna in the preliminary final.

Tyntynder and Lake Boga will contest the 14-and-under final from 10.20am.

Both have played out closely-fought matches.

Lake Boga won 19-13 at home round four, and Tyntynder scored a 27-25 victory in the 15th round.

They met in the qualifying final where Tyntynder won 30-23.

A week later and the Bulldogs beat Mallee Eagles, 33-29 in the second semi.

Lake Boga is on a roll.

The Magpies have won their past two hit-outs by 13 and eight goals as they beat Woorinen and then Mallee Eagles.
