COHUNA Kangas broke Nyah Nyah West United’s unbeaten streak in Saturday’s start to the Radio 3SH Central Murray senior footy finals series.
After winning all 15 matches in the home-and-away series, Nyah Nyah West United went in as favourite against Cohuna in qualifying final one at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve.
The Jack Geary-coached Kangas kicked away to a 30-10 lead by quarter-time.
A fired-up NNWU Demons dominated the second term to make it 38-all by the main break.
Cohuna led 66-60 going into the final quarter.
Inspired by the play of Tom Toma, Jack Geary and Chris Anderson it was Cohuna which won the last, 20-11.
Goalkicking accuracy was a factor as the Kangas scored 12.14 as the Demons were on 9.17 at the final siren.
Corbin Anderson, Tom Toma and Mitch Treacy led Cohuna’s attack on three goals each as Hudson Fountain, Jack Geary and Joel Helman were also on target.
Demons’ coach Corey Daniels kicked three goals as Scott Carlin and Jordan Johnston slotted two and Dominic Gallo and Beau Schwarze added one.
Best for the Kangas included Lachlan English, Joel Helman and Daniel Coates.
Nyah Nyah West United’s best were Riley Daniels, Jaydyn Stirling, Brady Davidson, Jordan Johnston, Scott Carlin and Mitch Grinham.
Cohuna progresses to the September 12 preliminary final at Balranald’s Greenham Park.
The Demons will fight to stay in the premiership race when they play Hay in next Saturday’s semi-final at Nyah Recreation Reserve.
Reigning premier Woorinen hit the century mark in a 19-point victory against Mallee Eagles in Saturday’s qualifying final two at Swan Hill’s Alan Garden Reserve.
It was a great contest across the opening three quarters.
Mallee led 27-21 at quarter-time, and Woorinen was up 49-46 at half-time.
Both teams scored 3.2 in the third term.
The Tim Free-coached Woorinen took control in the final quarter to score 5.1 as the Eagles were held to a tally of 2.3.
Sam Hilton-Joyce kicked three goals as Rhys Cason, Will Collicoat and Hugh Thompson added two each in 100-81 victory for the yellow and black.
Jye Barry, Taylor Cameron, Jose Miliado, Jamie Nicholas and Lachlan Warburton were also on the goalkicking list provided by Woorinen.
Leading goalkickers for the Eagles were Jacob O’Meara on three and Jack Landt and Marcus Wattie with two each.
Coach Harry Allen, Shaun Harrison and Darcy Hourigan slotted a goal each.
Woorinen’s best were Lachlan Gardner, Oscar Lewis, Rhys Cason, Henry Thompson, Kane Reid and Jose Miliado.
Harry McGregor, Zac O’Meara, Toby Sheahan, Harry Allen, Beau Bennett and Isaiah Bull played well for the Eagles.
Mallee will face Koondrook Barham in next Sunday’s semi-final two at Murrabit Recreation Reserve.
Elimination finals were played on Sunday.
Koondrook Barham dominated elimination final two against Moulamein at Alan Garden Reserve.
The Marcus Demaria-coached River Raiders led 19-2 at quarter-time and then scored 3.5 as they kept the Swans to a tally of 1.2 in the second term.
Koondrook Barham led 42-10 at half-time and did not let up.
The River Raiders won the third, 33-6, and the last, 28-12.
Koondrook Barham kicked on for a 103-28 victory.
Clayton McCarney and Kye Attwell led the KB attack on four and three goals.
Other goalkickers were Patrick Goble, Will Lake and Liam Read on two each, and Martin Kelly, and Jack Thomas.
Was a tough afternoon for Moulamein in which Charlie Bowes, Adam Curry, Morgan Turvey and Thomas Worthley kicked a goal each.
Best for Koondrook Barham were Jacob Barrington, Jack Poulton, Harry Bremner, Kye Attwell, Martin Kelly and Jack Thomas.
Moulamein’s best were Jack Jones, Xander Hartland, Ely Miller, Ethan Fitzpatrick and Tobie Richardson.
The River Raiders will tackle Mallee Eagles at Murrabit in next Sunday’s semi-final two.
A Moulamein team coached by Brodie Tonkin and Hayden Dalitz ends the season with a nine-seven record.
Hay Lions charged clear of Kerang to win Sunday’s elimination final one by 44 points.
The Lions led 22-13 at quarter-time and 44-35 by the long break.
A seven-goal blitz in the third put the Mick Cattanach and James Moran-coached Hay well in control as it led by 41 points going into the last quarter.
James Lugsdin, Jack Cattanach and Jim Houston starred in a 110-66 victory by Hay.
Declan Watson led Hay’s attack with six goals as William Collis and James Lugsdin kicked three.
The Lions had Jim Houston add two majors with singles by Fergus Cattanach and Jacob Watson.
Kerang’s attack was led by Zak Bozanich and Bohden McKnight on three each as Damian Byrne, Tyson Clingan, Liam Jardine and Cody Makeham were also on target.
The Lions’ best included Jacob Watson, Fergus Cattanach and Ned Reinhard.
Kerang’s best were Tyson Clingan, Cody Makeham, Liam Jardine, Martin Kelly, Jonah and Bohden McKnight.
Hay faces Nyah Nyah West United in next Saturday’s semi-final one in the Demons’ den in Nyah.
The Brad Pay-coached Blues mark an eight-eight record this season.
