Dragons tackle Hawks on QEO turf

IT’S third against fourth as Sandhurst and Eaglehawk clash in this Sunday’s 11th round in Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy.

The Dragons have home-ground advantage at Queen Elizabeth Oval for a 1pm showdown with the Two Blues.

Sandhurst put in a stunning performance last Friday night to beat Castlemaine under the lights at the QEO by 11 points.

When the Dragons and Hawks met in round four it was Sandhurst which scored a 34-point victory at C and M Oval in Canterbury Park.

In-form players for Sandhurst include key forward Isabella Ayre, Ruby Campbell, Chloe Taylor and Alannah Prowse.

The squad in the maroon and blue which is coached by Liam Ireland and Andrew Saladino includes Sarah Baldwin, Grace and Lily Campbell, Chelsea Reeves and Chloe Swatton.

Eaglehawk’s win-loss tally of five-five has it perched on the fourth rung.

The Molly Metcalf-coached Hawks won last Sunday’s home game against Wedge-Tailed Eagles by 11 points.

Was a great fightback as the Eagles were up 21-8 at half-time, but the Borough scored 4.2 and kept the Eagles to just two behinds in the second half to claim a 34-23 victory.

Best for Eaglehawk were Molly Metcalf, Grace Edlin, Lilly Stevenson, Caitlin Evans, Eliza Long and Monique Gavriliadis.

Stung by defeat, Castlemaine’s back on its ground at The Railway Hotel Oval in Camp Reserve to play Wedge-Tailed Eagles from 1pm.

It’s the first meeting between the Magpies and Eagles.

Premier the past four seasons, Castlemaine is second in this premiership race on an eight-two record.

Key players for the Jordan Cochrane-coached Magpies include Jemma Finning, Paynton Jolliffe, Abbey Klemm, Taylah Sartori, Tiffany Bradley and captain Tiahna Cochrane.

The Phil Hawkes-coached Eagles will look for big games from Teagan Ainslie, Jorja Bennett, Brooke Cowan, Mairead Murphy, Ayesha Nicholson and Emma Williams.

Bendigo Thunder and Golden Square meet for the first time this season at Weeroona Oval from 1pm.

Huge challenge for the Mick McInnes-coached Thunder against the ladder-leader.

Was a tough hit-out for Thunder at White Hills last Sunday.

Key players for Thunder include co-captains Sharlene Cole and Hollie Maher, Shastia Martion, Ngaire Harlan, Archie McLachlan and Lili Fan.

The Darren Walsh-coached Golden Square has plenty of goalkicking power.

Gabby Drage leads the goalkicking race on 35 goals.

A strong Golden Square team includes Carly Geary, Kate Douglass, Kira Gibbons, Maddie Jelbart, Sarah Mannes and Dakota Woodhatch.

Marong takes on White Hills at Jackal Oval in Marong’s Malone Park from 1pm.

In round one the Demons marked a 26-goal win against the Panthers.

The round four clash between the teams was forfeited by Marong.

Marong has not played since it faced Bendigo Thunder in Pride Round on May 31.

Best for the Brett Carter-coached Panthers in that contest were Steph Dawson, Tidimalo Khalo, Alicia Turner, Chelby Clark and Alex Purdy.

White Hills fired up for a big win against Thunder last round as Seisia White kicked five goals and Courtney Collard added four.

A Demons’ team jointly coached by Sharni Barker and Allara Jackson includes Tracey Anderson, Courtney and Jorja Gibson, Natalie Johnson, Nadia Peebles and Pearl Sullivan.
