Golden Square dominates on Kangaroos’ ground

GOLDEN Square dominated Saturday afternoon’s clash with Kangaroo Flat in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL women’s football competition.

The unbeaten Golden Square took on Kangaroo Flat at Bendigo Mazda Oval in Dower Park in a stand-alone match held over from the second round of the season.

The in-form Tiahna Cochrane kicked five goals as Amanda Carrod added three in another emphatic victory by the blue and gold.

A tally of nine goalkickers included two majors by Lily Campbell in a 16.14 (110) to 5.4 (34) result.

Goalkickers for Kangaroo Flat were Abbey Barber, Kellie Dadds, Shelby Knoll, Kelly Mensforth and Bridget O’Dwyer.

Golden Square’s best were Madeleine White, Mia Ward, Monique Williams, Bree Heiden, Carly Ladson and Tiahna Cochrance.

Best for the Kangaroos were Knoll, Eileen Mitchell, Ruby Campbell, Kylie Thompson, Millicent Hipwell and Molly Metcalf.

Golden Square 685 per cent, 24 points; Bendigo Thunder 484, 20; Eaglehawk 199, 16; Kangaroo Flat 170, 16; Strathfieldsaye 141, 12; Kyneton 74, 8; Kerang 13, 0; North Bendigo 0.1, 0.

The race for the league goalkicking award is led by Bendigo Thunder star Britney Mueck on 26.

Eaglehawk’s Grace Edlin is next on 17, and Tiahna Cochrane from Golden Square was the big mover to now be in third place on 15 goals.

Next best are Bendigo Thunder’s Georgia Gordon, Kangaroo Flat’s Shelby Knoll, and Strathfieldsaye’s Tameeka Morrissey locked on 12.

Golden Square’s Lily Campbell has moved to 10 majors.

In next Sunday’s seventh round, Kerang and North Bendigo will be determined to break their winless run when they clash on the Blues’ turf at Riverside Park.

Kangaroo Flat is back at home at Bendigo Mazda Oval in Dower Park to face Bendigo Thunder.

Eaglehawk and Strathfieldsaye clash at S & R Park in Canterbury Park.

Kyneton tackles Golden Square at Kyneton Showgrounds.
