BALLARAT retained the Goldfields Trophy after a clean sweep in Saturday’s four matches against the Bendigo Bank Bendigo Junior Football League in Alfredton.
Closest result of the day was in the under-15 girls where Ballarat marked a 33-31 victory.
The hosts led 15-14 at half-time and were up 27-16 going into the final quarter.
Bendigo fought back strongly to score 2.3 in the last term, but a goal by Ballarat clinched a win.
In the under-13 boys match it was Ballarat which handled the wet conditions well to claim a 29-21 victory.
The century mark was almost hit as Ballarat scored a 99-22 win in the under-14 boys match.
A strong opening quarter set up Ballarat’s win in the under-15 boys contest.
The hosts led 21-8 at the first break before both teams added 2.1 in the second.
Bendigo won the third, 8-7, but it was Ballarat which steadied to score 2.2 as it kept its opponent to a major in the last.
Goals and best players from all four matches were not supplied.
Meanwhile the Bendigo Junior Football League’s home and away series resumes this Friday.
The Friday night action features five matches in the under-12 girls competition.
Play will be at Bendigo’s Ewing Park; Gourmet Pantry Oval in Golden Square’s Wade Street; Rochester’s Windridge Oval; and at the home of White Hills JFC in Scott Street.
There will be plenty of action across Bendigo on Saturday when the under-12 teams take to the field.
Grounds to be used will be Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo; Bendigo Mazda Oval in Kangaroo Flat’s Dower Park; Crusoe College in Kangaroo Flat; Ewing Park; Harry Trott Oval in Kennington; Jackal Oval in Marong’s Malone Park; Ken Wust Oval in Quarry Hill; Marist College in Maiden Gully; Strathfieldsaye’s Enterprise Oval; Toolleen Recreation Reserve; and Castlemaine’s Wesley Hill.
The under-14 teams will play on Sunday across three divisions.
There are 11 teams in the under-15 girls competition to be played on Sunday.
An important match will be at White Hills where the fourth-placed Demons take on the sixth-placed Mount Pleasant.
Match of the day in the under-16A competition will be at Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye’s Tannery Lane where Storm takes on Sandhurst.
It’s a 2.30pm start for the clash between first and third in the premiership race.
Three matches in the under-16B competition will be at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street, Kennington’s Harry Trott Oval in Neale Street, and Triple M Park in Strathfieldsaye.
