Lions play ladder-leading Roos in Hay

THE Hay Lions tackle Ultima Kangaroos in Saturday’s fourth round of senior footy action in the Golden Rivers season.

Unbeaten run of both teams will be at stake in the Lions’ den in Hay on what is Community Umpiring Round.

Match of the day between Hay and Ultima kicks off at 2.25pm.

The Lions won their latest hit-out at Macorna by 13 goals.

A five-goal haul earned Jack Cattanach best on ground honours.

Players to watch for Hay include James Moran, Jacob Watson, and forwards William Collis and Declan Watson.

Ultima marked an 87-point win against Murrabit on the Kangaroos’ ground.

Key targets in Ultima’s attack are Ryan Devereux and Lincoln Frost.

Matt Taverna and Ryan Featherby are capable of winning plenty of the ball in midfield or on-ball roles, and the Roos also have captain Jake Foster and Cameron Johnson in form.

Ultima’s line-up to tackle the Lions includes Jayden Kiel, Mitch and Tyler Makepeace, and Ricky Wild.

Separated by percentage, fifth and third-placed Murrabit and Wandella clash on Murrabit’s turf.

The Blues were held to tally of 25 points in their clash at Ultima last round.

Key players for Murrabit include Tobie Cameron, Tom Copland, Liam Holt-Fitz and Jack Shannahan.

Wandella’s win at home against Moulamein by 65 points meant the Bombers soared to third in the premiership race.

Co-coaches Justin Robinson and Adam Ward both kicked four goals in the victory against the Swans.

Key players for the Bombers include Nathan Boysen, Jack Radcliffe, Russell Rich, Tim Robinson and Jonty Taylor.

Moulamein will strive to end its losing run when it plays Macorna at Moulamein Recreation Reserve.

The Swans will look to co-captains Will Gibson and Morgan Turvey, Jayden Haeusler, Kaylem Hartley, Ely Miller, Heath Moloney, Rodney Reeves and Cody Storm to lead the way to victory.

A win will strengthen Macorna’s place in the top four.

Best for the Tigers in the clash with Hay were Fergus Bear, Travis Mercadante, Malcolm Neiwand and Josh Berryman.

Toby Whinfield kicked three goals against the Lions.
