Hay wins low-scoring clash with Ultima

DEFENCES were well on top as Hay beat Ultima in Saturday’s fourth round of senior footy in the Golden Rivers FNL season.

Unbeaten run was at stake as the Kangaroos played the Hay Lions at Ultima Recreation Reserve.

A sign of Hay’s dominance in this contest was its tally of scoring shots.

The Lions scored 5.10 (40) in a hard-fought victory against the Roos who were on 3.5 (23) at the final siren.

Hay’s attack was led by Declan Watson on two goals.

Best for the Lions were Joel Crocker, Jacob Watson, Jack Cattanach, Cooper Scott, Brad Pocock and Hugh Crighton.

Ultima’s best were Matt Taverna, Jayden Kiel, Kyle Symons, Thomas Bull, Sam Coffey and Martyn Cooper.

Wandella Bombers cruised to a 49-point victory on Murrabit’s turf.

The Bombers led 32-16 at quarter-time and 48-24 by the main break.

Inspired by the play of Tim Robinson, John Cooper and Jack Radcliffe, Wandella kicked on for a 94-45 victory.

The in-form Justin Robinson kicked four goals as Kaine O’Connell added three and Adam Ward chipped in with two.

Murrabit’s attack was led by Jack Shannahan on two goals.

Best for Wandella included Nathan Boysen, Adam McKenzie and Jarred Schlitz.

Jacob Wade, Jack Shannahan, Nathan O’Toole, Ryan Manning, Michael Grant and Tom Copland worked hard for the Blues.

Macorna marked a 41-point win at Moulamein.

It was the Moulamein Swans who dominated the first quarter to lead 28-8 by the break.

A high-scoring second term was won by Macorna, 36-22.

Quarter three was to be the Tigers best as they slammed on five straight goals and kept the Swans scoreless.

In a superb final hour, Macorna scored 8.1 and kept Moulamein to a tally of two behinds.

Tristan McIntosh kicked six goals as Macorna won 93-52.

Malcolm Neiwand booted two goals as seven team-mates added a major for the yellow and black.

Moulamein’s attack was led by Hunter Hartland, Kaylem Hartley and Ely Miller on two.

Best for Macorna were Sam Whinfield, Oscar Don, Fergus Bear, Tristan McIntosh, Xavier Wishart and Josh Berryman.

Rodney Reeves, Mark Drotsky, Morgan Turvey, Will Gibson, Heath Moloney and Jayden Haeusler were Moulamein’s best.

Golden Rivers FNL senior footy ladder:

Hay 271 per cent, 16 points; Ultima 240, 12; Wandella 104, 8; Macorna 92, 8; Murrabit 51, 4; Moulamein 36, 0.

In next Saturday’s fifth round, Hay is at home to play Wandella from 2.25pm.

Moulamein and Murrabit meet in the clash of the Swans and Blues at Moulamein Recreation Reserve.

Macorna is on home turf against Ultima.
