GRFNL Round 5 Football Review | Kangaroos thrash Swans at Ultima

ULTIMA showed it’s a force to be reckoned with after a big victory against Moulamein in Saturday’s fifth round of senior footy in the Golden Rivers competition.

The Kangaroos dominated on their ground at Ultima to score a 62-point win against the Swans.

Ultima led 19-9 at quarter-time and then surged to a 29-point buffer by the long break.

The Roos did not ease the pressure in the final hour as they scored 9.6 to 4.3 to mark a 112-50 victory against last season’s runner-up.

Wooden spooner in ’22 on a 2-14 record, Ultima is unbeaten in this year’s premiership race.

Multiple goalkickers for the Roos against the Swans were Kade Benfield, three; Jack Delmenico, Jack Fletcher, Sean O’Reilly, Mitchell Seton-Stewart, and Kyle Symons, two.

Moulamein’s attack was led by Daniel Aarsman, Corey Farrell and Andy Silva on two.

Ultima’s best were Mitchell Seton-Stewart, Mitch Makepeace, Caillum Brady, Thomas Bull, Zac Cattlin and Sam Coffey.

Daniel Aarsman, Blake Azzopardi, Amos Farrell, Ely Miller, Corey Farrell and Cody Storm played well for Moulamein.

Hay was under the pump at Wandella.

The Lions were down 9-18 at quarter-time, but hit back to win the second term, 2.4 to 1.3.

Wandella still led 40-35 going into the final quarter.

In the last it was the Lions who did most of the attacking and scored 3.3 to 1.2 to complete a 56-48 victory.

The in-form Simon Bunyan kicked four goals for Hay.

Archer Lancaster and Matt Wilkinson kicked two goals for Wandella.

Best for the Lions were Joel Crocker, Dom Booth, Brad Pocock, Bentley Murphy, Daniel Gash and Jensen Hargreaves.

Tim Robinson, Jack Radcliffe, Declan Hogg, Matt Wilkinson, Jarred Schiltz and Adam Ward played well for the Bombers.

Macorna dominated after half-time of its home game against Murrabit.

The Tigers scored 6.6 in the first, but Murrabit was up for the fight as it kicked four majors in a high scoring opening term.

From there it was Macorna which took control.

Seven goals to a point put the Tigers up by 61 points at half-time.

Lachlan Ritchie and Josh Walters went on to kick five goals apiece as Josh Cameron and Jordan Simpson added two in a 122-37 result.

Murrabit’s gun forward Damian Cupido kicked four goals.

Best for the Tigers were Jack Featherby, Nick Ingleton, Chris Wilson, Josh Walters, Jacob McIntosh and Harley Somerville.

Tom Copland, Dustin Blake, Rhys Carmichael, Nathan Henry, Tobie Cameron and Michael Crossett were Murrabit’s best.
