Moulamein caps dramatic fightback to beat Blues

MOULAMEIN capped a brilliant final quarter fightback to beat Murrabit by a point in Saturday’s fifth round of the Golden Rivers FNL senior footy action.

Playing at home, Moulamein was down 29-52 going into the final term.

In the last it was the Swans who took flight.

Moulamein slammed on 5.6 and kept the Blues to a tally of two goals.

The Swans fought on to win 9.11 (65) to 9.10 (64) and celebrated their first victory of the season.

Ely Miller led Moulamein’s attack on two goals.

Leading goalkickers for Murrabit were Nathan Henry and Jack Shannahan on two.

Best for Moulamein were Trae Atkinson, Rodney Reeves, James White, Mark Drotsky, Cody Storm and Xander Hartland.

Murrabit’s best were Jacob Wade, Ryan Manning, Austin McKerrow, Sean Gillen, Josh Bray and Tobie Cameron.

After a closely-fought first half, Ultima kicked away to win on Macorna’s turf by 56 points.

The Ultima Kangaroos led 51-40 at the main break.

In the final hour the Roos added 7.11 as Macorna scored 1.2.

At the final siren Ultima led 104-48.

Ricky Wild led the Roos’ attack on four goals and was best afield.

Ultima captain Jake Foster added three and Ryan Devereux chipped in with two.

Macorna’s leading goalkicker was Josh Walters on three.

Best for Ultima were Ricky Wild, Matt Taverna, Jamie Nicholas, Caillum Brady, Thomas Bull and Rory Bell.

Lachlan Ritchie, Travis Mercadante, Michael Govus, Malcolm Neiwand, Lachlan Thompson and Will Robinson played well for Macorna.

The unbeaten Hay was too strong strong at home for Wandella.

An entertaining first term went Hay’s way, 31-23.

In the second the Lions scored 3.4 to a goal.

A four-goal buffer going into the second half was 39 points at a quarter to go.

Led by the play of William Collis, Jack Cattanach and Brad Pocock, Hay Lions won 111 to 49.

Co-captain Kenneth Jubb kicked five goals as William Collis and Jensen Hargreaves added three.

Jack Cattanach and Jock Crighton kicked two majors for the Lions.

Wandella’s attack was led by Justin Robinson, three, and Adam Ward, two.

Best for Hay included Kenneth Jubb, Joel Crocker and Bentley Murphy.

Nathan Boysen, Logan Keighran, Jack Radcliffe, John Cooper, Justin Robinson and Andrew Charles played well for the Bombers.
