GRFNL Round 6 Football Preview | Bombers face unbeaten Roos at Wandella

BY NATHAN DOLE

THE Wandella Bombers face the ladder-leading Ultima in Saturday’s sixth round of senior footy in the Golden Rivers FNL season.

Wandella has home turf as the Bombers take on the Kangaroos from 2.25pm.

Although it has a 1-5 record, Wandella teamed superbly last round to finish within eight points of Hay in the Bombers’ hangar.

Best for the red and black in that contest were Tim Robinson, Jack Radcliffe, Declan Hogg and Matthew Wilkinson.

Key players for Wandella include Marong premiership player Adam Ward, Russell Rich, Kane Timmins, Tanner Treacy and Logan Keighran.

Wooden spooner in 2022, Ultima is on a five-game winning streak.

The Roos outplayed last season’s runner-up, Moulamein in last Saturday’s match at Ultima.

Mitchell Seton-Stewart, Mitch Makepeace, Caillum Brady and Thomas Bull were best in a 62-point victory by the Kangaroos.

Ultima’s team to take on Wandella includes Jayden Kiel, Jye Purtill, Zac Cattlin and Tyler Makepeace.

Another big match will be at Moulamein where the Swans take on Macorna.

The Moulamein line-up will be keen to rebound from a 10-goal plus loss at Ultima.

Key players for the Swans include Daniel Aarsman, Blake Azzopardi, Amos Farrell and Ely Miller.

Moulamein will also look to Amos Farrell, captain Heath Moloney, Kaylem Hartley, Zach Prentice and Luke Shannon to have an influence on this contest.

Macorna marked an 85-point win at home against Murrabit last Saturday.

Jack Featherby, Nick Ingleton, Josh Walters and Chris Wilson were best for the Tigers.

The Tigers line-up includes captain Malcolm Neiwand, William Bentley, Shaun Haffenden, Anthony Free and Alex Kirby.

It’s Lions versus Blues as Hay hosts Murrabit.

The third-placed Hay will start favourite to take the points.

Key players for the Lions include ruck-rover Dom Booth, rover Bentley Murphy, Simon Bunyan, Dean Aylett and captain Brad Pocock.

A key for Hay will be to limit supply to Murrabit’s gun forward Damian Cupido.

In what’s been a tough run for the Blues, Cupdio has kicked 19 goals to be joint leader in the league’s goalkicking race.

The Lions named James Eddy at full-back.

Murrabit’s best at Macorna last round were Tom Copland, Dustin Blake, Rhys Carmichael and Nathan Henry.

The Blues will look to Ed and Jono Aujard, Zac Hard, Blake Watts and captain Nathan O’Toole to lead the way to victory.
