Hawks fly in victory against White Hills

THE Huntly Hawks soared to a seven-goal victory against White Hills in Saturday’s ninth round of A-grade netball action in the Bendigo Bank Heathcote District Football Netball League.

A 34-27 victory on the Hawks’ court at Specialist Breeders Australia Oval in Strauch Reserve has lifted Huntly above White Hills on the ladder.

The Hawks and Demons went into the match in fourth and third places in league standings.

Huntly played inspired netball to mark one of its best victories in recent seasons as White Hills slipped from the third rung to the fifth.

Long-time rivals in netball and football, Mount Pleasant and Colbinabbin met on the Blues’ court at Toolleen.

It was Colbo’s first hit-out since a 68-35 win against Heathcote in the seventh round played on May 22.

The Grasshoppers worked hard in a 57-43 win against Mounts.

The ladder-leading Elmore was too strong at home for Heathcote.

It was the seventh time this season the Bloods had passed the 60-goal mark.

Elmore led 65-29 at the final whistle.

North Bendigo marked the trek to Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval by scoring a 50-32 victory.

The team in red, white and blue was determined to play well after a 27-goal loss at home to Elmore the previous round.

Leitchville Gunbower had the bye.

Standings in the Heathcote DFNL’s A-grade netball competition:

Elmore 199 per cent, 36 points; Colbinabbin 156, 28; Huntly 109, 20; North Bendigo 96, 20; White Hills 107, 18; Mount Pleasant 103, 14; Heathcote 66, 8; Leitchville Gunbower 51, 4; Lockington Bamawm United 55, 0.

There will be two big contests in next Saturday’s 10th round.

White Hills and North Bendigo meet at Tint A Car Oval in Scott Street.

When these clubs met in round three, White Hills won 51-48 on North Bendigo’s court at Hibo Hotel Oval in Atkins Street.

Huntly is back at home to take on Colbinabbin at Specialist Breeders Australia Oval in Strauch Reserve.

Leitchville Gunbower takes on Heathcote at Degroot Roof Painting Gunbower Recreation Reserve.

Lockington Bamawm United faces Mount Pleasant at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

Elmore has the bye.
