HDFNL Round 11 Netball Review | Hawks defeat Blues on Huntly court

BY NATHAN DOLE

THE Harlowe Huntly Hawks marked their best victory of this year’s A-grade netball action in Saturday’s 11th round of the Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL season.

The Kym Bell-coached Hawks took on Mount Pleasant at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve.

A great contest between the brown and gold against the blues ended in a 38-35 win for Huntly.

It was Huntly’ second win of the season and sent the Carine Comer-coached Mount Pleasant to the fifth rung on the premiership ladder.

Unbeaten reigning premier, Elmore was in ruthless form against Colbinabbin at M.J. Morgan Reserve in Colbinabbin.

The Allira Holmes and Gabe Richards-coached Elmore led 18-11 at quarter-time and then scored 25 goals to 11 in the second.

A 21-goal lead at the long break became 25 by the last change against the Jen McIntyre-coached Grasshoppers.

Elmore’s slick passing from mid-court to attack was outstanding as it went on to claim an 81-48 win against the third-placed Colbinabbin team.

North Bendigo kept the heat on those on the bottom rungs of the top five by scoring a 21-goal win against Lockington Bamawm United at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

It was a big day for LBU which had a reunion of several premiership-winning teams.

Among those back at Lockington was former Australian captain and goalshooter/goal attack Sharelle McMahon.

On court it was North Bendigo which led 13-4 at quarter-time and 23-11 by the main break.

The Shellie Davies-coached Bulldogs won the third term, 12-5.

A closely-fought final quarter went North’s way, 14-12, to complete a 49-28 victory against the Jessie Hardess-coached Cats.

Heathcote was too strong for Leitchville Gunbower at Gunbower.

A brilliant first quarter put the Saints up 18-4.

Jointly coached by Brooke Bolton and Kelsey Hayes, Heathcote went on to record a 70-31 win against the Gemma Angove-coached Bombers.

White Hills had the bye.
