Bulldogs jump two rungs on ladder
NORTH Bendigo jumped from the eighth rung to the sixth on the A-grade netball ladder after Saturday’s victory in round eight of the Bendigo Bank Heathcote DFNL season.
The Bulldogs travelled to Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval for the clash with the Lockington Bamawm United Cats.
A North Bendigo line-up jointly coached by Kiralee Kinder and Stacey Kingdon won 52-44 and moved within four points of the fifth-placed Heathcote.
After scores were locked on 23-all at half-time, Winslow White Hills Demons surged clear in the second half at Winslow Constructors Oval in Scott Street, White Hills.
The Lauren Bowles-coached Demons turned up the heat to win the third quarter, 15-5.
A high-scoring final term went the way of White Hills, 17-13.
Although disappointed with a 55-41 defeat there were plenty of encouraging signs for the Brooke Bolton and Kelsey Hayes-coached Heathcote.
Elmore marked the trek to Toolleen by scoring a 48-38 victory against Mount Pleasant.
The Allira Holmes and Gabe Richard-coached Elmore is second in the premiership race on a six-one record.
Big test for the Anthea McCleary-coached Mount Pleasant next Saturday on Leitchville Gunbower’s court at Gunbower.
The Leitchville Gunbower Bombers were under pressure from the Harlowe Huntly Hawks in the first half of their match on the Hawks’ court at Strauch Reserve.
By the long break the Caitlin Hamilton-coached Bombers led 22-18.
In the third LG surged clear as it poured in 19 goals and held the brown and gold to a tally of seven.
Leitchville Gunbower’s run and skill was a highlight in a 62-31 victory against the Kym Bell-coached Huntly team.
Colbinabbin had the bye.
