Huge task for Bridgewater against unbeaten Mitiamo

BRIDGEWATER will attempt what no other A-grade netball rival has done the past two seasons by ending Mitiamo’s unbeaten run in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL grand final on Saturday.

The Mean Machine will take on the formidable Mitiamo team from 3.15pm on court one at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve.

In the home-and-away series the Jen Wilson-coached Mitiamo beat Bridgewater in the round seven match at John Forbes Oval by 14 goals.

The Superoos then bound their way to a 77-45 victory on Bridgewater’s court in the 16th round.

Mitiamo marked a 62-50 win against Newbridge in the second semi-final at Calivil to book another grand final appearance.

It’s been a much tougher run for Bridgewater to feature on that one day in September.

A 39-41 loss to Newbridge in the qualifying final, Bridgewater hit back for a 53-41 victory against Pyramid Hill in the first semi-final.

The Carly Wild and Lou Dupuy-coached Bridgewater then turned the tables in a 48-42 win against Newbridge in the preliminary final.

A strong squad for Mitiamo includes goaler Laura Hicks, a five-time Helen Ward medallist as league fairest and best.

Last season’s Helen Ward medallist, Amelia Ludeman will be in mid-court for the Superoos.

Mitiamo’s squad includes Abbey Battersby, Chloe Collins, Taylah Diss, Caitlyn Gilmour, Alicia Hay, Lyss Mulder, Jayne Norton, Carly Storey and Eliesha Twynstra.

Key players for Bridgewater include Dannielle and Natalie Flood, Erin Delahunty and Keira Lane.

The Mean Machine also has Lou Dupuy, Phoebe Henderson, Jorja Lee, Sidney Niemann, Holly and Piper Normoyle, and Claudia Petri desperate to achieve what would be a win for the ages.

A big day for Bridgewater includes the A-reserve team taking on Newbridge from 1.30pm on court one.

In round one, Bridgewater scored a 56-44 win at home against the Maroons.

The Carly Wild and Lou Dupuy-coached Bridgewater marked a 61-44 victory on Newbridge’s court at Deepcore Drilling Oval in Riverside Park in the 10th round.

When they met in the second semi-final it was Bridgewater which scored a 49-44 victory.

Newbridge began the finals with a 38-37 win against Marong in the qualifying final.

The Rachel Pettifer bounced from defeat in the second semi to win the preliminary final against Marong by eight goals.

Bridgewater’s team is Ava Wood, Carolyn Wood, Chelsie Martyn, Claudia Petri, Holly Normoyle, Kirsten Galea, Lou Dupuy, Sam Reaper and Tia Lane.

The Newbridge squad is Tara Henkel, Bianca Bourke, Mayah Chilver, Paige Martin, Zoe Ferns, Mikeeley Hufer, Ellie Laffy, Millie Binns and Rachel Pettifer.

In B-grade, Newbridge takes on Bridgewater from 11.45am on court one.

The Maroons won the first-round match on Bridgewater’s court by 22 goals and then took the points in a 50-35 result in the 10th round at Riverside Park.

A Newbridge line-up coached by Rochelle McDonnell won the second semi-final against Bridgewater by 16 goals.

Bridgewater fought for a 37-36 win against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles in the qualifying final.

Stung by the second semi defeat the Georgia Mamouney-Brown coached Bridgewater scored a nine-goal win in the preliminary final against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.

The Newbridge line-up is Rochelle McDonnell, Olivia Carr, Beth Cahill, Rosie Jeffrey, Carly Lepp, Ally Symons, Sharlene Hannig, Tania Kerrison, Sophie Humphreys and Georgia White.

Bridgewater’s line-up is Zoe Daldy, Carly Dewar, Erin Farrar, Jessica Ford, Tamara Hayes, Olivia Kean, Jayne Lawson, Mackenzie Mamouney-Brown, Evie Pay, Alex Perera, Sophie Tyrrell and Araminta Wood.

It’s the Mean Machine against the Blues as Bridgewater faces Inglewood in the B-reserve match from 10am on court one.

In round three, Bridgewater won at home against the Blues by 18 goals.

The round 12 showdown ended in  a 39-30 win for Bridgewater at Centre State Scaffolding Oval.

Just two goals separated these teams in the second semi-final as the Jayne Lawson-coached Bridgewater clinched a 42-40 victory.

Inglewood won the qualifying final against Calivil United by nine goals and hit back from its loss to Bridgewater to beat Calivil United in the preliminary final.

The Blues are coached by Lauren Bell.

Bridgewater’s team is Eva Cathrine, Zoe Daldy, April Downing, Milla and Saige Finch, Jayne Lawson, Charlotte McIntosh, Courtney McKinley, Christie Metherall, Hannah Van Ryn and Isabella Zerk.

The rising stars from Maiden Gully YCW Eagles and Calivil United will contest the 17-and-under grand final from 1.30pm on court two.

An unbeaten streak of 16 matches for the Shae-Anna Wakefield-coached Calivil United in the home-and-away series included wins against the Eagles by 25 and 22 goals.

On second semi-final day it was the Christie Griffiths-coached Maiden Gully YCW Eagles who stunned the Demons in a 53-51 win on the Demons’ court at Calivil Recreation Reserve.

Calivil United hit back for a 58-25 win against Mitiamo in the preliminary final.

The Maiden Gully YCW Eagles team is captain Annabelle Vanderzee, Mollie Jones, Liv Hardinge, Liv Moresi, Mia Gray, Hannah Guo, Jorja Hutton, Aurelia Ford, Addison Gloury and Madison Lines.

Calivil United will be represented by captain Chelsea Doolan, vice-captain Georgia Pascoe, Ruby Cullen, Charlie Lenton, Annabelle McPhee, Olivia Richardson, Paige Smith and Teagen Vinnecombe.

Calivil United will take on Newbridge in the 15-and-under match from 10am on court two.

Based on this season’s results fans may witness another thriller.

In round four, Newbridge won its home game against the Demons by four goals.

The Maroons won the round 13 clash in Calivil by six goals.

It was a one-goal thriller in the second semi as the Karen Pascoe and Michelle Balic-coached Calivil United won 45-44 in the Demons’ den.

A week earlier and Calivil United had won the qualifying final against Marong by two goals.

The Stacey Lakey-coached Newbridge netted a 52-41 win against Marong in the preliminary final.

Calivil United’s team is captain Zali Cullen, vice-captain Lucy Pascoe, Penny Balic, Airlie Brown, Illish Fawcett, Gracie Noonan, Reese Pascoe, Caitlin Ralphs, Abby and Talia Smith and Ava Weeks.

A big day for Calivil United includes its 13-and-under team against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles from 11.45am.

The Michelle Balic and Karen Pascoe-coached Calivil United won both of the home-and-away matches against the Eagles by eight and 15 goals.

After a six-goal loss to Mitiamo in the qualifying final the Peyton Saxton-coached Maiden Gully YCW hit back to win the first semi against Newbridge, 44-21, and then beat Mitiamo in the preliminary final by five goals.

Calivil United is on a 19-match winning streak which includes the a 38-23 win against Mitiamo in the second semi-final.
