Huntly ends Mount Pleasant’s unbeaten streak

THE Harlowe Huntly Hawks broke Mount Pleasant’s unbeaten streak in Saturday’s 11th round of Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL senior footy.

As the Hawks scored six goals in the second half they kept the reigning premier to a tally of seven behinds.

Huntly worked hard to lead 31-24 at half-time and then dominated the vital third quarter.

As the brown and gold scored 4.2 in term three Mounts added four behinds.

It was more of the same in the final quarter as Huntly racked up 2.4 and the Blues added three behinds.

When the final siren sounded Huntly’s players, officials and supporters celebrated a 73-31 victory.

Abe Sladden kicked five goals in a best-on-ground performance as Lachy Wilson added two majors.

Hawks’ coach Hamish Morcom would have been rapt the team did not rely on Sam Dunstan who was kept goalless to have a dramatic impact on the match.

There was no multiple goalkicker for Mounts in a match where Huntly’s defence kept Ben Weightman, Brodie Leonard-Shannon, Alex and Joel Wharton goalless.

Best for Huntly were Abe Sladden, captain Steve Kairn, Will Lee, Mitch  Billings, Sam Dunstan and Darby Walsh.

Mount Pleasant’s best were Jett Nicholas, William Wallace, Joel Wharton, Caelan Smith, Brodie Montague and Joey Bell.

Starting the second half of the home-and-away series with a victory has kept Huntly within 10 points of the fifth-placed Heathcote.

It’s a huge match next Saturday as Heathcote hosts Huntly at Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve.

A Mount Pleasant team coached by Josh Hann, playing, and Cam Carter, non-playing, stayed on top of the ladder, but is now just one win clear of Colbinabbin.

Another final quarter blitz sealed a 31-point victory for North Bendigo on Colbinabbin’s ground at M.J. Morgan Oval.

The Bulldogs led 41-26 at half-time before Colbinabbin dominated the third quarter.

As the Linton Jacobs-coached Grasshoppers added 5.2 the Bulldogs added three goals.

North Bendigo led 59-58 going into the final term.

A Bulldogs’ blitz was capped with six goals to seal a 97-66 victory.

Jake Dean and Jordan Ford both kicked three goals for the Bulldogs as co-coach Ryan Hartley, Riley Paetow and Cody Riddick added two each.

Colbinabbin’s leading goalkickers were Alex Carr and Brandyn Grenfell on four and three.

Best for the Bulldogs were midfielder Bailey Cain, ruckman Jordan Hargreaves, Will Gilmore, captain Aarryn Craig, co-coach Ryan Hartley, and Harrison Jarvie.

Colbinabbin’s best were Angus Martin, Ben Barton, Jude Ryan, Tanner Nally, Josh Smithson and Sam Ryan.

A Bulldogs’ team which has Rob Bennett as non-playing co-coach is now on a win-loss tally of six-three and also drew its match on Mount Pleasant’s turf.

Heathcote moved back into the five after a 13-point win on its turf at Pigeon Park against Leitchville Gunbower.

The Saints led 27-14 at quarter-time before the Bombers struck back to win the second term, 18-11.

A high-scoring third quarter went Heathcote’s way, 32-25.

Both teams added three behinds in the last as the Saints were up 73-60 at the final siren.

Heathcote’s attack was led by Justin Bateson, Dylan Johnstone and Jake Waters with two goals each.

For Leitchville Gunbower it was Jack Dye who slotted a match-high three goals.

Best for the Saints were key defender Lachlan Freeman-Taber, Stefan Rasinac, Dillon Williams, Jake Waters, Will Tobin and Jordan Marcroft.

Matt McLellan, Charles Hancock, Jack Dye, Nic Cattapan, Jye Keath and James Brereton were best for the Joel Donehue-coached Bombers.

A Saints’ line-up coached by Andrew Saladino, non-playing, and Liam Jacques, playing, has a win-loss tally of five-three and drew with Mount Pleasant at Toolleen.

Lockington Bamawm United marked a 33-point win against White Hills at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

The LBU Cats were overrun by the Demons when they met in round two.

In the return clash it was the Jayden Howe-coached LBU which led 16-6 at quarter-time and 43-26 by the long break.

As the Cats kicked four goals in the third term they kept the Demons to a major.

White Hills worked hard to win the last quarter, 19-18, but it was LBU which led 87-54 at the siren.

The LBU attack was led by Campbell Keele on three goals as Lachlan Holthuisen, Nick Sheldon and William Walshe added two each.

Leading goalkickers for the Demons were Cohen Kekich and captain Jake Thompson with two each.

Best for LBU were Bowden Stone, Campbell Keele, Marcus Angove, Patrick Keele, William Walshe and Nick Smart.

Mitch Dole, Seth Boyd, Liam Monaghan, Josh Harris, Cohen Kekich and Patrick Crawford were best for White Hills.

Elmore had the bye.

A highlight of next Saturday’s round 12 action will be Heathcote on home turf at Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve against Huntly.

The clash of the Saints and Hawks will start at 2.20pm.

Mount Pleasant will aim to rebound from its first defeat in many matches when it tackles Lockington Bamawm United in Toolleen.

White Hills and Colbinabbin meet in the Demons’ den in Scott Street.

It’s the Bulldogs against the Bloods as North Bendigo hosts Elmore at Bendigo Club Oval in Atkins Street.

In the netball……….MOUNT Pleasant and White Hills recorded emphatic wins in Saturday’s 11th round of A-grade netball in the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL season.

The Anthea McCleary-coached Mount Pleasant chalked up its sixth victory in a row.

The Blues make their way to Huntly’s Strauch Reserve to play the Hawks.

Mount Pleasant’s precise passing from mid-court to attack was a highlight as the Blues charged to a 65-34 victory.

Runner-up in ’25, Mount Pleasant is second in the premiership race on a nine-one record.

Despite the defeat the Hawks’ line-up coached by Kym Bell and Ash Sherlock held its place in the five.

The third-placed White Hills was too strong for Lockington Bamawm United.

A Demons’ team coached by Elley Lawton netted a 60-42 win against the LBU Cats at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

Since a 57-51 win at Elmore in round nine the Stacy Bacon-coached LBU has played at North Bendigo where the Bulldogs won by nine goals and then faced a talented White Hills team.

Heathcote’s run toward claiming a place in the top five took a significant hit after a two-goal loss on its court at Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve to Leitchville Gunbower.

The Katie Pollock-coached Leitchville Gunbower won 47-45.

When these teams met in round two it was the LG Bombers who won 46-40 in Gunbower.

Now on 2 ½ wins, Leitchville Gunbower jumped above the Brooke Price-coached Heathcote, the Stacy Bacon-coached LBU and Adam Boldiston-coached Elmore to the sixth rung.

At Colbinabbin’s M.J. Morgan Oval the Grasshoppers charged to a 68-51 victory against North Bendigo.

It was a high-scoring contest as the Jen McIntyre-coached Colbinabbin passed the 65-goal mark  for the eighth time this season.

North Bendigo also worked incredibly hard through mid-court and attack.

The Kiralee Kinder-coached North Bendigo was held to a tally of 30 goals in the previous meeting with the reigning premier.

Elmore had the bye.
