Huntly Hawks swoop to take first points of season

THE Harlowe Huntly Hawks swooped Elmore to claim their first premiership points of this season in Saturday’s round eight clash in Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL senior footy.

Playing on home turf at Strauch Reserve, Huntly led 33-16 at quarter-time.

Across the next two quarters the brown and gold scored 40 points as Elmore racked up 21.

Going into the final quarter Huntly led 73-37.

The Hawks slammed on seven goals in the last to complete a 118-39 victory.

Huntly’s attack was led by Lachy Wilson with five goals as full-forward Sam Dunstan slotted four and  Joseph Artavilla added two.

Leading goalkicker for the Luke Freeman-coached Elmore was Ahston Sinn on two.

Lachy Wilson capped a timely return to be Huntly’s best along with Nathan and Sam Dunstan, Todd Stevenson, Mitch Billings and Joseph Artavilla.

Elmore’s best were captain Rhys Holmberg, Hayden Trewick, Xavier Coghill, Charlie O’Toole, Ahston Sinn and Kynan Sharpe.

At Gunbower it was the Leitchville Gunbower Bombers who overran North Bendigo in the final quarter to claim a 75-68 victory.

The Joel Donehue-coached Bombers started well to lead 25-19 at quarter-time.

In the second term it was the Bulldogs who scored four goals to lead 45-35 by the long break.

A hard-fought third quarter went LG’s way, 15-9.

In the last the Bombers scored four goals and kept the red, white and blue to a tally of two goals/

The Leitchville Gunbower attack was led by Blake Dye and Josh Koster on three goals each.

Leading goalkickers for North Bendigo were Dylan Klemm and Darcy Richards with three as Cody Riddick kicked two.

Best for the Bombers were Blake Dye, Luke Davis, Billy Hawken, Bryce Barnstable, Ryan Allan and Xavier Colvin.

North Bendigo’s best were co-coach Ryan Hartley, Storm Giri, Liam Dillon, Harrison Jarvie, Hamish McCartney and Will Gilmore.

The Bulldogs have Rob Bennett as non-playing co-coach.

Heathcote scored a 13-goal win on its turf at Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve against White Hills.

At the end of a closely-fought first quarter Heathcote led 27-20.

The Saints then dominated across the next three terms as they racked up goal tallies of five, six and seven.

Gun forwards Sean Williams and Dylan Johnstone kicked six and five goals as Hugh Freckleton added four in a 147-68 victory.

The Demons’ attack was led by Lachlan Martin on three as Patrick Conlan kicked two.

Classy on-baller Stefan Rasinac was Heathcote’s best along with Callum Birch, Sean Williams, Hugh Freckleton, Codie Price and Dillon Williams.

Best for White Hills were Nicholas O’Brien, Seth Boyd, Lachlan Martin, Jack Lawton, Patrick Crawford and Charlie Mortimer.

A Saints’ line-up coached by Andrew Saladino, non-playing, and Liam Jacques, playing, is third on the ladder.

The Brad McConnell and Lachie Sawyer-coached White Hills started the season with consecutive wins, but is now on a two-five record.

Colbinabbin overcame a slow start on Lockington Bamawm United’s ground at Nichol Trading Oval to win by 68 points.

The Jayden Howe-coached LBU led 12-10 at quarter-time.

Colbinabbin clicked up a few gears in the second term as it slammed on seven goals and kept the Cats to a major.

By half-time the Grasshoppers had skipped away to a 35-point lead.

Six goals in the third as it kept LBU goalless put the Linton Jacobs-coached Colbinabbin well in control.

LBU fought on to win the third, 21-16, but it was the Grasshoppers who led 111-43 at the final siren.

Alex Carr drove Colbinabbin’s attack with five goals as Brandyn Grenfell kicked three and Jude Ryan added two.

Leading goalkickers for LBU were Brayden Hull and Bart Phillips with two each.

Colbinabbin’s best were Aidan Basile, Will Le Deux, Alex Carr, Connor Aldous, Angus Martin and Jai Carn.

Bowden Stone, Riley Carr, Patrick Keele, Charlie Hinks, Brayden Hull and Nick Smart were best for the Cats.

Mount Pleasant had the bye.

North Bendigo tackles the Harlowe Huntly Hawks at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street.

White Hills and Leitchville Gunbower meet in the Demons’ den at White Hills Recreation Reserve in Scott Street.

It’s the Bloods against the Cats as Elmore and Lockington Bamawm United clash in Elmore.

In the netball action………It was a terrific contest between the Hawks and Bloods at Huntly’s Strauch Reserve.

Huntly took on the Adam Boldiston-coached Elmore which was chasing its third win in a row.

The Kym Bell and Ash Sherlock-coached Hawks fought their way to a 46-45 victory.

Stung by defeat at home the previous round, North Bendigo hit back against Leitchville Gunbower in Gunbower.

The Kiralee Kinder-coached North Bendigo won 56-39.

Lockington Bamawm United took on the red-hot Colbinabbin at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

Although the Stacy Bacon-coached Cats were on their court they could not halt the reigning premier charging to an emphatic victory.

The Jen McIntyre-coached Colbinabbin led 87-46 at the final siren.

Details from the Heathcote and White Hills match played on the Saints’ court at Pigeon Park in Heathcote’s Barrack Reserve were not supplied.
