Kerang celebrates long-awaited victory

KERANG marked its first victory in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL women’s football competition on Sunday.

After a run of seven defeats, Kerang starred against North Bendigo at Riverside Park.

The Blues won 16.14 (110) to nil.

Sharni Ferrari capped off plenty of Kerang’s drive into attack by booting five goals.

Rachael Booth, Donal and Tenay Fellows, and Remi Maher all kicked two goals.

The in-form Jemma Meehan was best afield for Kerang as Tenay Fellows, Donal Fellows, Ferrari, Maddison Price and Maher all starred.

Best for North Bendigo were Mikaela McGrath, Bianca Rogers, Alyssa Johnstone and Madelin Jelbart.

Eaglehawk capped  a brilliant fightback to win a thrilling contest against Strathfieldsaye by seven points.

Four goals to nil in the second quarter put Storm up, 33-6 at half-time of the clash on Eaglehawk’s turf at S & R Park in Canterbury Park.

The Borough struck back to score 2.1 to nil in the third quarter.

Eaglehawk finished the game with plenty of run as it added 3.3 to nil in the last term to complete a 40-33 victory.

Jasmine Burzacott and Ebony Whiley led the Hawks’ attack on two goals each.

Tameeka Morrissey booted four goals for Storm.

Eaglehawk’s best were Lily Den Houting, Eillish Cumming, Grace Murley, Burzacott and Emily Field.

Best for Strathfieldsaye were Claire Macgill, Emily Galtieri, Alana Long, Morrissey, Georgia Vozlic and Roweena Ilsley.

Details from the Kangaroo Flat and Bendigo Thunder match played at Bendigo Mazda Oval in Dower Park were not supplied.

Golden Square was too strong for Kyneton in the Tigers’ lair at Kyneton Showgrounds.

The unbeaten ladder-leaders won 94-7 as Tiffany Bradley, four goals; Amanda Carrod, Ella and Tiahna Cochrane, two each, led the attack.

Elizabeth Snell was on target for the yellow and black.

Golden Square’s best were Ella and Tiahna Cochrane, Ella Turnbull, Andrea Wilson, Tiffany Bradley and Ebony McLean.

Heidi Erasmus, Jordan Savoia, Natalie Korinfsky, Shannon White, Elizabeth Snell and Belinda Hateley played well for the Tigers.
