Ladder leaders clash on Wedderburn’s turf

THE clash of ladder-leaders Wedderburn and Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers at Wedderburn’s Donaldson Park highlights Saturday’s sixth round in Goldacres North Central FNL senior footy.

The Redbacks and Tigers will play from 2.30pm in the web.

Both teams are in hot form.

A Wedderburn team coached by Tom Metherell won the Emergency Services round match at home against Boort by 73 points.

Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers put in a ruthless performance as it beat Donald in Tigers’ territory by 107 points.

Key players for Wedderburn include Matt Perri and Tyler Curtis in attack; Mitch McEwen, Zach Pallpratt, Noah Furlong and Adam Postle.

Huge challenge for the Redbacks’ defence against Max Cahoon and  Lachy McClelland.

The Tigers are also bolstered by the inclusion of former Adelaide and Geelong key forward Josh Jenkins for his first match of the season.

Add in the experience and class of former Richmond and North Melbourne player Robin Nahas and it’s a formidable SLN team.

Other players to watch include co-coaches Boyd Bailey and Wade Donnan.

Reigning premier Calder United Lions takes on Donald at Wycheproof.

The Jordan Humphreys and Tom Bickley-coached Lions will start favourites.

Calder United scored a 170-point win against Charlton last round.

Key match-ups include Justin Laird at centre half-forward for the Lions against Harry Forrest, and the brilliant Steve Stroobants at full-forward opposed by Parker Sneddon.

Calder United has Oscar Madden, Rylee Smith and Josh Walsh leading the defence, Mitch Farmer in the ruck or attack, and Angus Forrester roving.

Big games for Donald have to be played by co-coach Daniel Pearce, Baxter Donnellon, Lachlan Bourke, Charlie Campbell, Pala Kuma and Luca Rice.

The Royals also have Matt Walder as co-coach.

Birchip Watchem is back at George Cartwright Oval in Birchip to take on Charlton.

The Ash Connick-coached Bulls won last Saturday’s clash with St Arnaud by 51 points.

Victory put Birchip Watchem on the fourth rung as Meyrick Buchanan, Jonty Randall, Joseph Madio and Heath Smith led the way.

The Bulls’ squad includes Ricardo Liparota in attack, Daniel Bell as ruck-rover, Lachy Foott, Sam Simmons and Dale Hinkley.

Another huge challenge for the Carl Thiesz-coached Charlton.

The Navies’ team bound for Birchip includes Kris Clifford, Bailey Hooper-Dixon, Mason Heenan, Ben Lanyon, Sean O’Connor, Jed Thompson, and Jackson Zagame.

It’s the Magpies against the Saints as Boort faces St Arnaud at Boort Park.

Boort is chasing its first win as the Saints are on a two-three record.

Massive test for a Boort defence led by James Byrne, Luke Boyd and Sam Toose against Torin Petrie, Max Hungerford and Jake Hicks.
