CALDER United Lions showed it’s still a strong contender for the Goldacres North Central FNL senior footy premiership as it beat Sea Lake Nandaly by eight goals in Saturday’s round 14 showdown.
The reigning premier dominated after quarter-time at Wycheproof to claim a 97-48 victory.
An evenly-fought first term went Sea Lake Nandaly’s way, 22-16.
From there it was the Jordan Humphreys and Tom Bickley-coached Lions who seized control.
The Lions scored 4.4 and kept the Tigers to a tally of two behinds in the second term.
Sea Lake Nandaly worked hard to win the third, 15-13, but it was Calder United which held a three-goal buffer going into the last quarter.
As the Lions slammed on six goals in the final term they kept SLN to a major.
Calder United powered on to a 97-48 victory in which Steven Stroobants and Rick Allan kicked four and three goals and George Forrester added two.
Was a tough afternoon for the Tigers’ attack where Max Cahoon was the only multiple goalkicker on two goals.
Best for Calder United were Rylee Smith, George Forrester, George Turner, Matt Trzeciak, Zach Caccaviello and Steven Kennedy.
The Tigers’ best were Cooper Roberts, Zac Kelly, Codey Elliott, Connor Michael, Charlie Cox and Brody Weir.
A Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers team jointly coached by Boyd Bailey and Wade Donnan will host Birchip-Watchem Bulls next Saturday from 2.30pm.
Calder United is back at Wycheproof to tackle Wedderburn which reclaimed top spot on the ladder.
The Birchip-Watchem Bulls charged to a 69-point win against Donald at Birchip’s George Cartwright Oval.
It was eight-all at quarter-time.
The Ash Connick-coached Bulls scored 4.6 and kept the Royals to a tally of two behinds in the second.
Birchip-Watchem then added six goals in the third quarter to open up a 10-goal lead.
The Bulls won the last, 29-20, on their way to a 111-42 victory.
Zane Connick led the Bulls’ attack on four goals as Meyrick Buchanan booted three and Ricardo Liparota and Joseph Reid added two each.
The Royal Blues had six individual goalkickers.
Best for Birchip-Watchem were Zane Connick, Joseph Madio, Meyrick Buchanan, Mac Lewis, Riley Hogan Jr, and Sam Simmons.
Donald’s best were Bill Sam, Charlie Campbell, Josh Poole, Parker Sneddon and Thomas Guljas.
The Daniel Pearce and Matt Walder-coached Donald is back on home turf to play Boort next Saturday.
Wedderburn marked a 95-point win against St Arnaud in last Saturday’s home game at Donaldson Park.
The Tom Metherell-coached Wedderburn raced to a 36-9 lead by quarter-time.
The Saints fought back to win the second term, 31-29.
It was a superb third quarter by Wedderburn as it slammed on 10 goals and kept the Saints to a tally of three behinds.
Tom Campbell kicked five goals as Louis and Oscar Holt added three each in a 150-55 win by the red and black.
Other multiple goalkickers for Wedderburn were Hamish Lockhart, Jackson McEwen and Zach Pallpratt on two each.
The Saints’ attack was led by Josh Hicks and former coach Torin Petrie on two each.
Wedderburn’s best were Tyler Curtis, Jye Mortlock, Louis and Oscar Holt, Zach Pallpratt and Hamish Lockhart.
Austin Lowe, Lachlan O’Connell, Joe Maishman, Sam Male, Jay Kirwood and Nick Maishman were best for the Harley Durward and Darby Schilder-coached Saints.
Boort dominated its clash with Charlton at Boort Park.
The Andrew Rutley-coached Magpies led 42-7 at quarter-time and then added six goals as it kept the Navies scoreless in term two.
Eight goals in the third were followed by nine in the last.
Lachlan Fitzgerald kicked seven goals in a 199-9 win by the Andrew Rutley-coached Magpies.
Other multiple goalkickers were Kayne and Tyson Rutley on four each; Jackson Daley and Jack Smith on three; as Keiren Wilson kicked two.
Charlton’s sole goalkicker was Sam Jones.
Best for Boort were Liam Bianco, Jonathan Lanyon, Connor Dalgleish, Lachlan Fitzgerald, Kayne Rutley and Jackson Daley.
Jackson Zagame, Ethan Soulsby, Jeff Debast, Jake Lawry, Leigh Van Boven and Murphy Fitzpatrick worked hard for the Carl Thiesz-coached Navies.

Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers are back at Sea Lake Oval to take on Birchip-Watchem.
Donald hosts Boort at Donald Recreation Reserve, and Charlton faces St Arnaud at Charlton Park.
