Bulldogs win epic contest with Mitiamo at Pyramid Hill
PYRAMID Hill capped a brilliant final quarter fightback to clinch a five-point win against Mitiamo in Saturday’s 15th round of the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League’s senior footy season.
The Bulldogs were down by 20 points at three quarter-time after Mitiamo had slammed on 7.1 to 2.1 in the third term to turn a 10-point deficit at the main break into a sizeable lead.
It was the Nathan Fitzpatrick-coached Pyramid Hill which then dominated the last.
Led by the play of Dylan Collis, Mitch Cheesman and Bryden Morrison, Pyramid Hill scored 4.8 to 1.1 in the final quarter to win 79-74.
Mitch Cheesman kicked a team-high four goals for Pyramid Hill.
The Superoos’ attack was led by Jay Reynolds, five; and Lucas Matthews, four.
Best for the Bulldogs included Ben Dalton, Dylan Morison and Bailey George.
Daniel Mowat, Doug Thomas, Lee Dale, Nathan Twigg, Jay Reynolds and Lachlan Twigg were best for the Marcus McKern-coached Mitiamo.
It was a memorable 300th senior game for Steve Turner as the Maiden Gully YCW Eagles beat Calivil United by 105 points.
A key defender for most of his footy career, Turner went into attack in the final quarter and kicked six goals to cap a best afield performance.
The Eagles led 39-7 at quarter-time and 71-8 by half-time of the clash at Marist College Bendigo Oval in Maiden Gully.
Key forward Jason Butty kicked five goals as Brayden Aitken, Matt Gilmore, coach Wayne Mitrovic and Corey Walsh all added two majors in a 136-31 victory.
Calivil United had four goalkickers.
Best for the Eagles were Steve Turner, Nathan Murley, Jessi Lampi, Corey Walsh, Mitchell Dean and Hamish McCartney.
Jack Burns, Corey Pearse, Jake Lawry, Alex Daniels, Mitch Avard and Michael Maxey worked hard for the Jack Daley-coached Demons.
Bears Lagoon-Serpentine led 49-46 at three quarter-time of its away game at Newbridge’s Holloway Air Riverside Oval.
The Bears then slammed on 8.6 to 1.2 in the last term to record a 103-54 victory.
Andrew Gladman and Josh Taig led the BLS attack on three goals each.
Newbridge’s leading goalkickers were Ryan Burt and Chris Dixon with two.
Best for the Bears were captain-coach Justin Laird, Bailey Harrison, Harry Gadsden, Josh Walsh, Darcy Poulter and Josh Taig.
Caleb Argus, Caleb Sanders, Austin Fithall, Brodie Pearce, Brandon Etherington and Liam Nihill were best for the Luke Freeman-coached Newbridge.
An 18-goal haul by gun forward Brandyn Grenfell earned best afield honours as Marong beat Inglewood by 219 points in the Panthers’ den at Malone Park.
The Linton Jacobs-coached Marong led 34-7 at quarter-time and then had tallies of nine, 13 and 12 goals in the next three terms.
A formidable attack had Kain Robins, five; Cory Jacobs and Ryley Taylor, four; and Adam Ward, two, as other multiple goalkickers.
The Inglewood Blues had four goalkickers.
Best for Marong were Brandyn Grenfell, Jimmy Gadsden, Lachlan Lee, Cory Jacobs, David Johnstone and Nathan Devanny.
Charlie Ingham, Lachlan Nemet, Cody Wright, Conor Morone, Nathan Angelino and James Woods worked hard for the Darrell Billett-coached Inglewood.
Bridgewater had the bye.
