Eagles soar to 10th victory in a row

THE ladder-leading Maiden Gully YCW Eagles soared to their 10th victory in a row as they beat Calivil United by 11 goals in Saturday’s 15th round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League season.

The Eagles and Demons met on the main court at Marist College Bendigo in Maiden Gully.

An evenly-fought first quarter ended with the Eagles in front, 14-11.

Maiden Gully YCW won the next two quarters, 16-10 and 16-12 to hold a 13-goal lead going into the final term.

The Demons fought the game out well to outscore the Eagles in the last, 14-12, but it was Maiden Gully which took the premiership points ini a 58-47 victory.

Newbridge was in hot form against Bears Lagoon Serpentine at Holloway Air Riverside Oval in Newbridge.

The Maroons led 20-5 at quarter-time and then slammed on 18 goals and held the Bears to just four in the second.

Newbridge’s goalers capitalised on the mid-court dominance to add 19 goals in the third and 23 in the last to complete an 80-22 result.

The second-placed Mitiamo capped the trek to Pyramid Hill’s Mitchell Court with a 16-goal win.

Mitiamo led 10-8 at quarter-time and 20-14 by half-time.

The third quarter was when the Superoos took control as they added 15 goals and held the red, white and blue to nine.

At the final whistle, Mitiamo led 49-33.

It was a rest for Marong because Inglewood is not fielding an A-grade team, but the Panthers and Blues did  contest the lower grades at Marong’s Malone Park.

Bridgewater had the bye.
