Tied scores at end of Marong’s clash with Calivil United

SCORES were locked on 52-all when the siren sounded to end the A-grade netball match between Marong and Calivil United in Saturday’s 17th round of the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League season.

Whether it’s declared a draw or points awarded to the Panthers or Demons may have to settled by the LVFNL board.

The official scoresheet from the match at Malone Park showed scores locked on 52-52.

A recount of quarter-by-quarter goal tallies had Calivil United on 53 in a match vital to the top three hopes both teams.

The Demons led by nine goals at half-time after it dominated the second quarter, 20-10.

Brilliant shooting by Bridget Willox sparked Marong’s fightback in the third term.

Best for the Karen Pascoe-coached Calivil United were goalshooter Mia McCrann-Peters, Lily Buckingham at centre, and Michelle Balic and Jasmine Condliffe in defence.

Marong coach Bianca Garton was rapt with the team’s effort to lift after being outplayed in the second quarter.

The ladder-leading Maiden Gully YCW scored a 56-47 win on its court at Marist College Bendigo against Bridgewater.

Pyramid Hill marked its fourth win of the season after an upset 31-29 win on Newbridge’s court at Holloway Air Riverside Oval.

It was a rest for Bears Lagoon Serpentine in A-grade, but BLS did play Inglewood in the other grades on Inglewood’s court at Dissy Machinery Oval.

Mitiamo had the bye.

 

Standings in the Loddon Valley FNL’s A-grade netball competition:

Maiden Gully YCW 155 per cent, 56 points; Marong 127, 48; Mitiamo 134, 46; Calivil United 120, 42; Bridgewater 105, 32; Newbridge 85, 24; Pyramid Hill 68, 16; Bears Lagoon Serpentine 43, 8.

 

Bridgewater and Mitiamo will tune up for the finals when they clash at Bridgewater in this Saturday’s 18th and final round of the home and away series.

It’s season over for Pyramid Hill in A-grade, but the Bulldogs will play Inglewood in the lower grades at Pyramid Hill’s Mitchell Park.

Calivil United takes on Newbridge in the clash between fourth and sixth at Calivil Recreation Reserve.

Bears Lagoon-Serpentine will be at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve to face a Maiden Gully YCW Eagles team unbeaten since round one.
