Fans flock to netball finals at Marong, Mitiamo
NETBALL fans will be courtside at Marong and Mitiamo for this weekend’s start to the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League’s finals series.
First up will be Saturday’s qualifying finals at Marong’s Malone Park.
The Marong Panthers will have home-court advantage for their showdown with Mitiamo from 3pm.
Based on this season’s results it may be another thriller between the Panthers and Superoos.
In round three, scores were locked on 47-all at the end of a top contest on Mitiamo’s court at John Forbes Oval.
The Laura Hicks-coached Superoos bounded to a 59-48 victory at Marong in the 12th round.
Both teams had a different build-up to the finals.
The Bianca Garton-coached Marong had the bye for last Saturday’s last round of the home and away series as Mitiamo scored a 52-44 win on Bridgewater’s court.
Winner of the qualifying final will be meet the Christie Griffiths-coached Maiden Gully YCW Eagles in the second semi-final on August 27.
Calivil United and Bridgewater will fight to stay in the title race when they clash in Sunday’s elimination final at John Forbes Oval in Mitiamo at 3pm.
This season’s meetings between the Demons and Mean Machine stand at one-all.
In round five it was the Karen Pascoe and Teigan Redwood-coached Calivil United which won 53-51 at Bridgewater.
Nine rounds later and Bridgewater won 40-35 at Calivil Recreation Reserve.
Although beaten by Mitiamo last Saturday, the Aimie Brown-coached Bridgewater showed it can be a threat to those above it in the league standings.
The Demons warmed up for the finals by scoring a 49-45 win against Newbridge at home.

A-grade at 3pm: Mitiamo v Marong.
B-grade at 1.30pm: Bridgewater v Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.
C-grade at 3pm: Marong v Bridgewater.
C-reserve at 1.30pm: Marong v Newbridge.
17-and-under at 12pm: Maiden Gully YCW v Calivil United.
15-and-under at 10.30am: Maiden Gully YCW Eagles v Pyramid Hill.
13-and-under at 12pm: Pyramid Hill v Mitiamo.
