LVFNL Round 7 Netball Review | Eagles end Pyramid Hill’s unbeaten run

BY NATHAN DOLE

MAIDEN Gully YCW broke Pyramid Hill’s unbeaten run in Saturday’s seventh round of A-grade netball action in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley FNL season.

The Adam Boldiston-coached Maiden Gully YCW was on the rebound from its first defeat in many weeks when it took to its court at Marist College Bendigo to take on the in-form Pyramid Hill.

After a first-round bye, Pyramid Hill had won 38-25 at Calivil and then 53-39 at home against Bears-Lagoon Serpentine in Mitchell Park.

A week later and the Gemma Scott-coached Bulldogs drew 48-all on Marong’s court at Malone Park.

Round five was a 47-28 win at home against Bridgewater, and then 43-37 on Mitiamo’s court at John Forbes Oval.

In round seven, Pyramid Hill could not halt the Eagles’ flight to an impressive victory.

A league best and fairest and premiership-winning goalshooter, Tia Webb capped off many of the Eagles’ moves against the Bulldogs.

Maiden Gully YCW also brought its rate of turnovers down which played a big part in a 68-46 result.

It was a closely-fought match between Mitiamo and Calivil United at John Forbes Oval in Mitiamo.

The Jen Wilson-coached Mitiamo surged to a 14-goal lead by the last change.

Despite a 1-4 record, Calivil United showed it will be no pushover as the Demons and Superoos both scored 16 goals in the last term.

At the final whistle, Mitiamo led 59-45.

Newbridge was too strong for Inglewood on the Blues’ court at Dissy Machinery Oval.

The Selina Holland-coached Newbridge is racking up the away games as renovations continue at the Maroons’ home at Riverside Park.

In Saturday’s play, Newbridge won 52-27 after a strong start by the Blues.

After being up by just a goal at quarter-time at Gadsden Finance Serpentine Reserve, Bridgewater upped its attacking and defensive play.

The Mean Machine led by 20 goals at the last break, but the Bears worked hard to be outscored by a goal in the final quarter.

A 58-37 win by Bridgewater has the red and white in sixth place in the premiership race.

Marong had the bye.
