Mount Pleasant and North Bendigo Dominate as Heathcote Climbs the Ladder

Mount Pleasant dominated quarters two and four on its way to a 117-16 win against Elmore at Toolleen Recreation Reserve.

Scores were locked on 12-all at quarter-time before Mounts slammed on 6.3 and kept the Bloods to a behind in the second term.

The Blues won the third quarter, 15-1.

Inspired by the play of Jack Hickman, Jett Nicholas and co-captain William Wallace, Mounts slammed on 8.3 as the Bloods added two behinds in the last quarter.

At the final siren Mounts led 117-16.

In the absence of gun forward Ben Weightman, hamstring, it was Jaxson Nihill and Joel Wharton who led the Blues’ attack with three goals each and figured in the best.

Other multiple goalkickers were Xavier Carter, Nathan Kay and co-captain Caelan Smith on two each.

Both of Elmore’s goals were off the boot of Lachie Gawel.

Best for Mount Pleasant included Nathan Kay against a club he had coached the previous two seasons.

Elmore’s best were Matt Filo, captain Rhys Holmberg, Matt Gilmour, Hayden Trewick, Charlie O’Toole and Lachie Munro.

A Mount Pleasant team coached by Josh Hann, playing, and Cam Carter, playing, makes its way to North Bendigo for next Saturday’s match of the day.

The Luke Freeman-coached Bloods will be on their turf against Heathcote.

A 23-point victory by Heathcote on its turf at Pigeon Park against Colbinabbin has lifted the Saints to the third rung on the ladder.

The Saints showed their 13-point win at Colbinabbin’s M.J. Morgan Oval in round five was no fluke as they took control in the second half of this contest.

Colbinabbin made a great start to lead 21-8 at quarter-time.

The Saints struck back to win the second, 22-15.

In what many fans dub the premiership quarter it was Heathcote which set up plenty of attacks in the third term.

As the Saints scored 4.3 they kept the Grasshoppers to a tally of 1.1.

Heathcote led 57-43 going into the final term and its intensity at the contest did not ease up.

The Saints won the last, 17-8, on the way to an impressive 74-51 victory against the green and gold.

One of several gun recruits to bolster the attack, Sean Williams led Heathcote’s goalkicking on four as the classy Stefan Rasinac kicked three.

Colbinabbin’s leading goalkicker was Brandyn Grenfell on three as Laine Fitzgerald slotted two.

Best for Heathcote were Codie Price, Callum Birch, Will Tobin, Hugh Freckleton, Sean Williams and Justin Bateson.

Colbinabbin’s best were Jude Ryan, Daniel Hill, Connor Aldous, Angus Martin, Ben Barton and Isaac Carracher.

A Saints’ team coached by Andrew Saladino, non-playing, and Liam Jacques, playing, is on an unbeaten streak of six rolling into next Saturday’s match on Elmore’s ground.

The Linton Jacobs-coached Colbinabbin dropped to the fourth rung and take on the fifth-placed Leitchville Gunbower at M.J. Morgan Oval next Saturday.

Leitchville Gunbower scored a crucial 40-point win against Lockington Bamawm United at Leitchville.

An 88-48 result meant the Joel Donehue-coached Bombers grabbed the fifth rung on the ladder.

The Bombers led 35-32 at half-time and then added 5.5 as they kept the Cats scoreless in the third quarter.

A closely-fought final term went LG’s way, 18-16.

Blake Dye and Lachlan Martini led the Bombers’ attack on three goals each as Jack Dye and Billy Hawken kicked two each.

The Cats had six players slot a goal each.

Best for Leitchville Gunbower were Darcy Elliott, Jack Dye, Austin Windridge, Josh Koster, Billy Hawken and Blake Dye.

LBU’s best were Bowden Stone, Patrick Keele, Jacob Gardiner, Tyler Phillips, Marcus Angove and Jack O’Callaghan.

The Jayden Howe-coached LBU will be back home at Nichol Trading Oval for next Saturday’s showdown with the Harlowe Huntly Hawks.

North Bendigo dominated after quarter-time of its clash with White Hills in the Demons’ den in Scott Street.

The Bulldogs were up 28-15 at the first break and then won the second term, 35-8.

As North Bendigo scored 4.6 in the third the Demons added 2.2.

It was another final quarter blitz by the red, white and blue as it slotted eight goals and kept the red and black to a tally of two majors.

When the final siren sounded North Bendigo led 145-49.

Jordan Ford capped another great match with six goals as centre half-forward Dylan Klemm marked his return from injury with four goals.

Other multiple goalkiickers were co-coach Ryan Hartley, three; and Cody Riddick, two.

The Demons’ attack was led by Lachlan Martin and Charlie Mortimer on three and two goals.

Best for the Bulldogs were ruckman Jordan Hargreaves, Ryan Hartley, Storm Giri, Jordan Ford, Bailey Cain and Jake Dean.

The Demons’ best were Charlie Mortimer, Patrick Crawford, the athletic Tamba Basha, Khy Sawyer, Jayden Sheean and Dustin Crawford.

Unbeaten since a round eight loss at Gunbower by seven points a North Bendigo team which has Rob Bennett as non-playing coach will now prepare for next Saturday’s home game against Mount Pleasant.

The Brad McConnell and Lachie Sawyer-coached White Hills has the bye next Saturday before it heads to Toolleen on July 25 to tackle Mount Pleasant.

In the netball…….THE Leitchville Gunbower Bombers marked win number three in Saturday’s 14th round of A-grade netball in the Agnico Eagle Fosterville Gold Mine Heathcote DFNL season.

More than 90 goals were scored on the Leitchville court as the Leitchville Gunbower team beat Lockington Bamawm United by six goals.

The Katie Pollock-coached Bombers led 49-43 at the final siren.

The margin was four goals in favour of the Stacy Bacon-coached LBU Cats when they hosted Leitchville Gunbower earlier in the season.

White Hills won a closely-fought contest on its Scott Street court with North Bendigo.

The Elley Lawton-coached Demons won 37-31.

Was a superb effort by White Hills as it bounced back from a nine-goal loss at Elmore the previous round.

Despite the defeat the Kiralee Kinder-coached North Bendigo retained fifth place on the ladder.

Mount Pleasant was too strong for Elmore at Toolleen Recreation Reserve.

The Anthea McCleary-coached Blues controlled a lot of play through all thirds of the court.

At the final siren Mount Pleasant led 64-25.

An Elmore team coached by Adam Boldiston worked hard as the margin against the Blues in round five was 60 goals.

The Bloods will be back on their court next Saturday to play Heathcote.

Colbinabbin’s hot streak kept rolling in a 76-13 win against Heathcote at Pigeon Park in Barrack Reserve.

The Jen McIntyre-coached Grasshoppers have been ruthless in their pursuit of back-to-back premierships.

A Heathcote team coached by Brooke Price battled against the pace of Colbinabbin’s mid-court and height in the goaling circle.

The Harlowe Huntly Hawks had the bye.

In next Saturday’s round 15 action, North Bendigo takes on Mount Pleasant at Bendigo Club Oval in North Bendigo’s Atkins Street from 2.30pm.

Elmore faces Heathcote at Elmore Recreation Reserve from 1pm.

It’s the Cats against the Hawks as Lockington Bamawm United and Huntly play from 1.30pm at Lockington’s Nichol Trading Oval.

Colbinabbin faces Leitchville Gunbower on the Grasshoppers’ court at M.J. Morgan Oval from 2.30pm.
