NCFL | Round 12 PREVIEW

Danger game for Wedderburn at Boort Park

THE fourth-placed Wedderburn faces a Boort team chasing a hat-trick of wins in Saturday’s 12th round of senior footy in the Goldacres North Central Football League season.

Wedderburn will mark the trek to Boort Park to tackle the Magpies.

Boort won its latest  hit-out at Wycheproof by 14 points as Brodie Leonard-Shannon led the attack on five goals.

Key defender and long-time Magpie Keirin Wilson was best afield and will again play an important role against Wedderburn.

Boort has the run and skill of ruck-rover Matt Chisari, Levi Moss in the centre, ruckman Nathan Twigg, and Cody Gunn, Ben Knight, Jesse Muscatello and Nathan Murphy in attack.

The Sam Barnes-coached Wedderburn is on the rebound from an 87-point loss on home turf at Donaldson Park to Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers.

The Redbacks will be determined to kick three goals in the opening quarter, let alone for the match.

Players to watch for Wedderburn include Jaran McKay in the centre, Jordan Rosengren at centre half-forward, Jackson Guan and Hamish Winter-Irving across the half-back line, Tom Campbell and Danny Benaim near goal, and ruckman Jordan Hargreaves.

Donald will tackle Wycheproof-Narraport at Donald Recreation Reserve.

The Royals won their latest match at Charlton Park by 158 points as Blake Grant, Josh Potter and Michael Foster led the goalkicking spree.

A talented Donald line-up includes Ryley Barrack at half-back, ruck-rover Brody Haddow, Michael Foster in the ruck, Blake Grant, Leigh Burke and Ryan Hards.

The Boe Bish-coached Demons will aim to keep the defensive heat high.

Wycheproof-Narraport’s best against Boort were Dane McLennan, Cody Green and Joe Kenny.

The play of ruck-rover Gedd Hommelhoff, rover Justin Bateson, Dylan Turner at half-back, and Ricky Allan at full-forward will be a key to the Demons’ chances.

The ladder-leading Birchip-Watchem faces Charlton at George Cartwright Oval in Birchip.

The Bulls charged to a 127-point victory at home against St Arnaud last round.

A powerful Birchip-Watchem attack includes Nathan Gordon, Will Sheahan, Jacob Christie and Lachy Foott.

Stars in the Bulls line-up include Lochy Sirett in the ruck, midfielder Sam Simmons, Elliot Jaeschke at half-forward, Daniel Castellano and Clayton Hinkley.

It will be another tough hit-out for Charlton.

Best for the Navies’ against Donald were Rhys Thompson, Aaron Walklate and Anthony Judd.

Charlton will look to Bailey Kemp, Kade Blow, Tim Hill, Patrick Soulsby, Jackson Zagame and Cobi Fitzpatrick to maybe win a quarter or two on the Bulls’ turf.

At St Arnaud’s Lord Nelson Park the Saints are up against the Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers.

Daniel Gifford, Harley Durward, Kurtis Torney, Jacob Tillig and Mitch Egan played well for the Torin Petrie-coached St Arnaud against Birchip-Watchem last round.

The Tigers will have sights on another big win and team chemistry in the build-up to finals.

Players to watch for SLN include Billy McInnes, Trent and Wade Donnan, Austin Mertz, Justin Ellis, Ryan O’Sullivan and Brodie Adcock.
