Saints kick clear in second half to beat Charlton

ST ARNAUD kicked clear in the second half to score a 37-point win against Charlton in Saturday’s 13th round of senior footy in the Goldacres North Central Football League season.

The Saints raced to a 19-nil lead by quarter-time of their match at St Arnaud’s Lord Nelson Park.

Desperate to mark its first victory of the season, Charlton struck back to win the second term, 13-nil.

The Torin Petrie-coached St Arnaud opened up a three-goal lead by the final change after it scored two goals and kept the Navies scoreless in the third term.

It was the Saints who finished full of running as they added 3.2 to a point in the last to claim a 51-14 victory.

Thomas Douglas led the St Arnaud attack on four goals to be among the best along with Daniel Gifford, Jacob Tillig, William Bertalli, William Jackson and Harley Durward.

On another tough afternoon for Charlton it was Rhys Thompson, Charles Patullo, Tim Hill, Jed Thompson, Aaron Walklate and Mason Heenan who were best.

 

Donald marked a successful trek to Wedderburn’s Donaldson Park.

A high-scoring first term ended in a 32-27 lead for Wedderburn, but Donald had gained a two-point break by half-time after it added 2.3 to 1.2 in the second quarter.

Led by the play of Brody Haddow, Reece McNally and Daniel Venditti it was Donald which scored 4.3 to 1.1 in the crucial third term.

Wedderburn hit back to win the last, 19-17, but it was the Royals who bagged the premiership points in an 86-66 victory.

Haddow capped a great match by kicking three goals as Sam Griffiths also chipped in with three.

Wedderburn’s key forward Tom Campbell was in superb touch as he finished with a game-high seven goals to best for the Redbacks.

Donald’s best included Ross Young, Josh Potter and Scott Wood.

Hamish Winter-Irving, Darcy Jackson, Jaran McKay, Jackson Guan and Corey Lowry played well for Wedderburn.

 

After being in front by just 15 points at half-time of its clash on Wycheproof-Narraport turf in Wycheproof, Birchip Watchem kicked away to win 100-48.

The in-form Nathan Gordon kicked five goals for the Bulls as Sam Simmons added three.

Leading goalkicker for the Demons was Gedd Hommelhoff on two.

Best for the Bulls were ruckman Lochlan Sirett, Elliot Jaeschke, Sam Simmons, James Lindeback, Kyle Stevens and Josh Booth.

Joe Kenny, Gedd Hommelhoff, Spencer Allan, Connor Burge and Jack McHutchsion played well for Wycheproof-Narraport.

 

The Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers racked up 43 scoring shots to nine in a big win against Boort.

The Tigers raced to a 42-1 lead by quarter-time of the match at Sea Lake and then added 8.6 to a point in the second term.

Sea Lake Nandaly showed no mercy as it added 8.4 to 0.2 in the third.

The final quarter was to Boort’s best as Matt Chisari kicked two goals and Frasier Holland added another in a term the Pies were beaten by just four points.

At the final siren the SLN line-up led 173-24.

Will Simpson kicked seven goals in a best afield performance for the Tigers as Justin Ellis, four; captain Matt Elliott and Wade Donnan, three, were also on target.

The Tigers’ best included Brodie Adcock, Jai Wright, Callan Noonan, Wade Donnan and Austin Mertz.

Boort’s best were Matt Chisari, Nathan Twigg, Levi Moss, Keiren Wilson, Tom Potter and Sam Green.

In Saturday’s round 14 action, Donald takes on Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers in the clash between third and second on the Royals’ turf in Donald.

Birchip-Watchem faces Wedderburn at Birchip’s George Cartwright Oval.

Boort and St Arnaud clash at Boort Park.

Charlton is at home against Wycheproof-Narraport at Charlton Park.
