Bulls romp to victory against Tigers at Birchip

THE Birchip Watchem Bulls charged to a big win against Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers in Saturday’s 15th round of senior footy in the Goldacres North Central Football League.

Fans were hopeful of a closely-fought contest between first and third at Birchip’s George Cartwright Oval, but the Trevor Ryan-coached Birchip Watchem tamed the Tigers.

The Bulls led 25-8 at quarter-time, but the Joel Donnan-coached Sea Lake Nandaly struck back to win the second term, 21-13.

Defence was a key factor in Birchip Watchem’s victory as it kept the Tigers goalless in the second half.

As the Bulls scored 5.3 across quarters three and four the Tigers added 10 behinds.

Clayton Hinkley kicked a match-high three goals for the Bulls as Nathan Gordon, Sean Hogan and Will Sheahan added two.

The Tigers had four goalkickers in a score of 4.15.

Birchip Watchem’s best were Lachlan Ryan, Clayton Hinkley, Will Sheahan, Lochlan Sirett, Riley Hogan and Nathan Gordon.

Luke Martin, Trent and Kane Donnan, Jai Wright, Thomas Cox and Brody Weir were best for the Tigers.

 

Donald hit the 22-goal mark at home against Boort.

The Rohan Brown-coached Royals led 33-0 at quarter-time of the clash with the Magpies.

It was a high-scoring second term in which Donald added 3.10 and Boort booted three goals.

Led by the play of captain Ross Young, Brody Haddow and Ryley Barrack it was the Royals who dominated the second half.

Donald scored 14.4 to 1.6 in the final hour to complete a 149-30 victory.

The Royals’ attack was led by Leigh Burke, four; Brody Haddow, Darcy Harrison, Josh Potter and Ross Young, three.

Boort’s only multiple goalkicker was Frasier Holland on two.

Donald’s best included Jordan Bates-Gilby, Sam Griffiths and James Wall.

Nathan Twigg, Jesse Muscatello, Chris Hatcher, Sam Green, Nathan Murphy and captain Keiren Wilson were best for the Andy Hawker-coached Magpies.

 

A second-quarter blitz put Wycheproof Narraport well in control of its home game against St Arnaud at Wycheproof.

The Demons led 22-14 at quarter-time and then slammed on 7.3 to 3.1 in the second.

The Boe Bish-coached Wycheproof Narraport led 67-33 at half-time and worked incredibly well to limit the Saints to a tally of 1.7 in the final hour to complete a 100-46 victory.

Cody Green led the Demons attack on four goals as Joel Turner, three; Justin Bateson and James Coatsworth, two, were the other multiple goalkickers.

The Saints’ attack had Jarryd Kell kick two goals.

 

Best for the Demons were Damien Horbury, Lachlan Van Schaik, Cody Green, Jack McHutchison, Joe Kenny and Connor Burge.

Ben Batters, Jacob Tillig, Will Jackson, Jacob Patching, Matthew Goode and Bailey Durward were best for the Torin Petrie-coached Saints.

Charlton worked hard to be within three goals by half-time of its clash with Wedderburn at Charlton Park.

The Redbacks led 61-32 at a quarter to play and slammed on 7.4 to nil to complete a 107-32 result.

Tom Campbell and Danny Benaim led Wedderburn’s attack on six and four goals.

Nick Thompson kicked two goals for the Navies.

Best for the Sam Barnes-coached Wedderburn were Jordan Rosengren, Jaran McKay, Tom Campbell, Danmny Benaim, Isaac Holt and Corey Lowry.

Mason Heenan, Tim Hill, Rhys Thompson, Aaron Walklate, Kade Blow and Jed Thompson played well for the Andy Nisbet-coached Charlton.

The final round in the home and away series will be played this Saturday.

Wedderburn plays Wycheproof-Narraport in the Redbacks’ web at Wedderburn’s Donaldson Park.

Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers play Charlton at Sea Lake Oval.

Boort tackles Birchip Watchem in the battle of the Magpies and Bulls at Boort Park.

St Arnaud faces Donald on the Saints’ ground at St Arnaud’s Lord Nelson Park.
