Teams aim to finish home and away series on a high

IT will be season over for some as others face another crucial warm-up to finals in this Saturday’s 16th round of senior footy in the Goldacres North Central Football League.

The league’s top four are all up against teams in the bottom four.

Wedderburn faces a test from Wycheproof-Narraport in the Redbacks’ web at Weddeburn’s Donaldson Park.

In round nine the Sam Barnes-coached Wedderburn won 64-63 at Wycheproof.

The Redbacks led 40-32 at half-time, but the Demons won the third term, 17-10.

Both teams scored 2.2 in a dramatic final quarter.

Tom Campbell, Jaran McKay and Jordan Rosengren kicked two goals apiece for Wedderburn as Joe Lockhart, Mitch McEwen, Luke Holt and Tyson Webster were best.

The Demons’ attack was led by Cody Green and Gedd Hommelhoff with two each.

Best for the Boe Bish-coached Wycheproof Narraport were Spencer Allan, Damien Horbury, Gedd Hommelhoff and Joel Turner.

In last Saturday’s play, Wycheproof Narraport scored a 100-46 win at home against St Arnaud.

Best for the Demons were Damien Horbury, Lachlan Van Schaik, Jack McHutchison and Joe Kenny.

Cody Green led the attack on four goals as Joel Turner added three.

Other players to watch for the Demons include Rick Allan, Justin Bateson, James Coatsworth and Trevor Rumbold.

Wedderburn scored 7.4 to nil in the final quarter to complete a 107-32 win at Charlton Park.

Tom Campbell and Danny Benaim led the Redbacks’ attack on six and four goals.

Players to watch for Wedderburn include Jackson Guan, Jordan Hargreaves, Isaac Holt, Corey Lowry, Jordan Rosengren and Hamish Winter-Irving.

 

Stung by defeat at Birchip last Saturday, Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers are back on home turf at Sea Lake to take on Charlton.

The Tigers will be desperate to build confidence after a goalless second half against the Bulls at George Cartwright Oval.

In round nine the Joel Donnan-coached Tigers won at Charlton by 119 points.

Will Simpson kicked six goals and captain Matt Elliott added five to be among the best with Trent Donnan and Austin Mertz for the yellow and black.

Quarters one and three were among Charlton’s best of the season as it scored 20 and 24 points against the Tigers.

Bailey Kemp and Nick Thompson kicked three goals each as Kade Blow, Aaron Walklate and Jed Thompson were best for the Navies.

The Tigers will look to Wade Donnan, Billy McInnes, Ryan O’Sullivan, Will Simpson and John Summerhayes to have a big impact on this match.

In last Saturday’s action, Mason Heenan, Tim Hill and Rhys Thompson played well for the Andy Nisbet-coached Charlton against Wedderburn.

Other key players for Charlton are Anthony Judd, Riely Thiesz and Ricky Welch.

 

Boort tackles Birchip Watchem in the battle of the Magpies and Bulls at Boort Park.

In round nine, Birchip Watchem won 132-21 at Birchip as Lachy Foott booted four goals and Daniel Castellano added three.

The Bulls’ best were Marshall Rippon, Clayton Hinkley and Elliot Jaeschke.

Alex Davis kicked two goals for Boort to be among the best with Tom Potter, Keiren Wilson and Jack Smith.

Key players in the Bulls run to top spot include Nathan Gordon , Clayton Hinkley, Lachlan Ryan, Lochlan Sirett and Will Sheahan.

In-form players for Boort include Sam Green, Chris Hatcher, Jesse Muscatello and Nathan Twigg.

 

St Arnaud faces Donald on the Saints’ ground at St Arnaud’s Lord Nelson Park.

Leigh Burke, Blake Grant, Brody Haddow and Josh Potter all kicked three goals as the Royals beat the the Saints by 125 points in round nine at Donald.

St Arnaud coach Torin Petrie kicked two goals in that contest as Bailey Durward, Matthew Goode, Jacob Tillig and Mitch Birthisel were best.

Key players for the Rohan Brown-coached Donald include Ryley Barrack, Will Burke, and Ross and Seamus Young.

The Saints will look for big games from the likes of Ben Batters, Will Jackson
