Tigers claw way to victory at Wedderburn

THE Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers fought hard for victory in Saturday’s second round of Goldacres senior footy in the North Central Football League.

Wedderburn put in a brilliant third quarter to turn an 11-point deficit into a seven-point lead going into the final term.

Premier of the past two seasons, Sea Lake Nandaly responded to the challenge at Weederburn’s Donaldson Park to score 6.3 to 2.2 in the last quarter.

Luke Martin, Thomas Cox and Jackson McMahon led the way as the Tigers roared to an 81-65 victory.

Leading goalkickers for the Bryce Delmenico and Billy McInnes-coached SLN were Wade Donnan, McInnes and McMahon with two each.

Wedderburn’s Tom Campbell kicked match-high three goals as Anthony Zelencich chipped in with two.

The Tigers’ best included Charlie Cox and Wade Donnan.

Best for Wedderburn were Danny Benaim, Jayden Jones, coach Tom Metherell, Jackson McEwen, Sam Lockhart and Darcy Jackson.

Birchip-Watchem dominated the second half of its clash with Donald at Birchip’s George Carwright Oval.

The Trevor Ryan-coached Bulls led 30-20 at half-time and slammed on 6.4 as they kept the Royals scoreless in the third term.

Another five goals in the last as Donald added a major completed a 102-28 win for the Bulls.

Gun forward Ben Edwards kicked eight goals in a best on ground performance.

Birchip-Watchem’s best included ruckman Hamish Hosking, Stefan Pye, Dale Hinkley, Joseph Reid and Meyrick Buchanan.

Todd Stevenson, Andrew Browne, Dale Kerr, Ryley Barrack, Hayden Geddes and Daniel Pearce worked hard for the Josh Potter-coached Donald.

Wycheproof-Narraport bounced back from defeat to take the points against St Arnaud at Wychproof.

Coach Wayne Mitrovic played for the Demons and kicked a goal in the 106-56 victory.

The Scott Driscoll-coached Saints worked hard to be within 14 points at half-time.

In the final hour the Demons scored 53 points as the Saints added 17.

Corey Jones led Wycheproof-Narraport’s attack on five goals as Josh and Nick Grabowski added three each.

Leading goalkickers for the Saints were Jake Male, three, and Torin Petrie, two.

Best for the Demons were Boe Bish, Josh Grabowski, Joel Turner, Nick Grabowski, Steven Kennedy and Maysen Murgov.

Zac Phillips, Ryan Lempa, Bailey Durward, Bailey Nicholas, Scott Driscoll and Daniel Gifford played well for the Saints.

Boort was too strong for Charlton under the Boort Park lights.

The Dale Cameron-coached Magpies led 23-14 at half-time and then slammed on 6.1 to 2.1 in the third quarter.

Ethan Coleman kicked five goals in an 81-36 victory for Boort.

Kris Clifford booted two goals for the Navies.

Boort’s best were Jhye Baddeley-Kelly, Ethan Coleman, Wade Broadstock, Jack Smith and Matt Austin.

Rhyen Woods, Jed Thompson, Sam Woods, Tyler Bruns, Nick Thompson and Tyler Fehsler played well for the Mitch Collins-coached Charlton.

Nullawil had the bye.

Donald is on home turf to play Nullawil in Anzac Round on Saturday.

Other matches in round three will be Charlton against Wedderburn at Charlton Park; Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers tackle Wycheproof-Narraport at Sea Lake; and St Arnaud faces Birchip-Watchem in the Saints’ home at Lord Nelson Park.
