Panthers aim to claw way into four

A PLACE in the top four is in Marong’s sights as the Panthers host Pyramid Hill in this Saturday’s fourth round of A-grade netball in the Bendigo Bank Loddon Valley Football Netball League.

Marong has home-court advantage at Discover Marong Park in Malone Park.

The Panthers and Bulldogs are both on the rebound from defeat.

Pyramid Hill is a win and 29 per cent clear of Marong as they occupy fourth and fifth rungs on the ladder.

After a brilliant start in which it won the opening two rounds and led the ladder, Pyramid Hill was beaten in last Saturday’s home game against Calivil United by eight goals.

Marong’s latest game was under lights at Marist College Oval against Maiden Gully YCW Eagles.

The Panthers worked hard, but it was the Eagles who won 61-54.

Fresh from breaking its season duck, Calivil United faces Mitiamo at 5 Star Stockfeeds Oval in Calivil.

Stung by defeats at Marong and at home to Maiden Gully YCW, the Demons were fired up last Saturday.

They will need to be for this showdown with the in-form Mitiamo.

The Superoos scored a 49-34 win against Newbridge in their latest game at John Forbes Oval in Mitiamo.

Newbridge clashes with Bridgewater at Simonds Homes Riverside Oval in Newbridge.

The Newbridge defence could be in for a tough afternoon against a line-up which scored 76 goals in its first game of the season.

Inglewood has a rest as Bears Lagoon Serpentine is not fielding an A-grade team.

Maiden Gully YCW has the bye.

Standings in the Loddon Valley FNL A-grade netball competition:

Mitiamo 152 per cent, 12 points; Maiden Gully YCW Eagles 119, 12; Bridgewater 230, 8; Pyramid Hill 139, 8; Marong 110, 4; Calivil United 90, 4; Newbridge 60, 0; Inglewood 55, 0.
