Redbacks mark trek into Tigers’ territory

WEDDERBURN makes the trek to Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers’ ground for this Saturday’s fourth round of the Goldacres North Central Football League’s senior footy action.

It’s second against third in the league’s match of the day at Sea Lake.

The unbeaten Redbacks have shown they have plenty of goalscoring options.

Wedderburn’s latest victory was a 155-62 result against St Arnaud in the Redbacks’ web at Donaldson Park.

Jordan Rosengren kicked a match-high six goals as Jaran McKay, four, and Ben DeAraugo, three, also played well in attack.

Players to watch for the Sam Barnes-coached Wedderburn include centre half-forward Tom Campbell, small forwards Danny Benaim and Jesse Douglas, Jayden Jones and Jackson Guan from defence, and ruck-rover Mitch McEwen.

On-ball and midfield duels will be vital in this match.

A formidable Tigers’ line-up includes ruckman Ryan O’Sullivan, ruck-rover Trent Donnan, Wade Donnan at centre half-back, gun full-forward forward Billy McInnes, Brodie Adcock and centreman Austin Mertz.

In the 116-15 win against Wycheproof Narraport it was Trent Elliott and Billy McInnes, four, and Flynn McGarry, three, who finished off plenty of the Tigers’ attacks.

Donald tackles Charlton on the Royal Blues turf at Donald Recreation Reserve.

The ladder-leading Donald won a hard-fought battle with the Birchip Watchem Bulls at Birchip by 17 points.

Players to watch for Donald include Ross Young in the centre, ruckman/forward Shane Neaves, Ryley Barrack, Blake Grant and Ryan Hards in attack, and rover Brodie Harrow.

It’s been a tough run for Charlton which was beaten at home by Boort by a point.

Riely Thiesz led the Navies attack on three goals as Bailey Kemp and Sean O’Connor added two each against the Magpies.

In-form players for Charton include Thomas Finlay, Tim Hill at centre half-back, Patrick Soulsby and Daniel Thiesz.

The play of Riely Thiesz, Bailey Kemp, Anthony Judd, Aaron Walklate and Jackson Zagame will be vital to the Navies chances.

St Arnaud faces a Birchip Watchem team on the rebound from defeat on the Saints’ turf at Lord Nelson Park.

The Saints scored 62 points at Wedderburn as Dillon Baldock and Harley Durward kicked two goals apiece.

Key players for the Torin Petrie-coached St Arnaud include Thomas and William Bertalli, Bailey and Harley Durward and Kurtis Torney.

Best for the Bulls in their loss to Donald included ruckman Lochy Sirett, Marshall Rippon and William Sheahan.

Daniel Castellano and Elliot Jaeschke are Birchip Watchem’s leading goalkickers on seven and six.

The skilful Sam Simmons, Clayton Hinkley, Stefan Pye, Lachy Foot and Daniel Castellano are likely to set up many scoring opportunities.

Boort will be eyeing consecutive victories when it takes on Wycheproof Narraport at Boort Park.

The Magpies and Demons will play under lights from 6pm.

Boort was under siege in the final quarter of the clash at Charlton, but held on for a 78-77 victory.

Rover Matt Chisari and wingman Jarrod Starr were among Boort’s best as Frasier Holland kicked a match-high four goals.

Key players for the Andy Hawker-coached Magpies include Jesse Muscatello in the ruck, James and Keiren Wilson in defence, Darcy Hawker in the centre, Cody Gunn, Ben Knight and Brodie Leonard-Shannon in attack.

The Demons need a win to keep the heat on those in the top four and also avoid being overtaken by Boort on the ladder.

The Boe Bish-coached Wycheproof Narraport will look to centre half-back Spencer Allan, small forward Justin Bateson, ruck-rover Gedd Hommelhoff, ruckman Lachlan Van Schaik, Joel Turner in the centre, and Cody Green to lead the charge to victory.
